Question about Lexmark Office Equipment & Supplies
Has Lexmark stopped manufacturing ink cartridges such as "Lexmark 16", "Lexmark 26", "Lexmark 17", "Lexmark 27", which are required for Compaq IJ650 printer? Is there an alternative from any other manufacturer?
I have checked 5 sites selling ink cartridges - original and compatible - including Amazon and Ebuyer, and they all appear to have the products you need. I give below the sites concerned:
Search results for lexmark 16
Lexmark 16 26 Black Colour 2 Printer Ink Cartridges for Compaq IJ650 IJ652...
Compaq IJ650 Ink Cartridges
I can not find any alternatives except the compatibles listed on these sites.
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya

This is a trick that is used on some of the HP printers. Try this, you will need at least 3 maybe 4 cartridges. The printer stores the chip ID in memory for the last 2 or 3 cartridges installed, so, take an old cartridge number 1 and install in the printer, reset power. Next step, take old cartridge 1 out and install old cartridge 2 in, let it come to ready or tell you to replace empty, then install your refilled cartridge. You just have to remove from its memory the chip ID of the refilled cartridge. You can fool it by doing this each time you refill. Can't guarantee this will work with lexmark, but it does work with HP.
Hope this helps,

A little confused here. Your Lexmark(Brand) x73 printer was manufactured by the Lexmark manufacturing company. See your Lexmark product support page below:

SOURCE: Refilling a printer cartridge
Lexmark does not support the use of refilled cartridges.
Lexmark, will void printer waranties and not support or diagnose any print quality issues.

To get your printer to recognize the new cartridge; go to start - printer and faxes -right click on printer - preferences (printing preferences) -settings -load factory settings. Print test page Ctrl+P
