P1494 and p0340 codes on pt cruiser

p1494 = "Evap leak detection pump pressure switch"
p0340 = "Camshaft position sensor"

You have two unrelated problems. The computer doesn't like your cam position sensor - replace that sensor. There also seems to be a problem with your evac pump, which may be a lot harder to track down; you may have a problem with the pressure switch or with a vacuum leak or vent leak somewhere within the fuel-tank-to-charcoal-canister-to-engine lines. Try replacing that switch first. If that doesn't fix the problem, then you'll need a hose routing diagram - with it, trace the vacuum lines and vent lines, looking for leaks or blockages.

Why does my AC turn hot ?

It is a problem with a pressure switch. There are 2 pressure switches, a high and a low pressure switch.

The maximum run time is when the pressure is in a mid-range and neither pressure switch cuts off. What is happening in your case is the pressure is either too high or too low after the A/C runs a bit.

You need to test the system pressure and see what the average pressure reads as. This will give you some idea of whether your system needs more Freon.

If the system is low, you need more Freon and you need to stop the leak. Now if your system is very low, it is probably contaminated with outside air. When you get outside air in the system, bad things happen.

Outside will compress and make pressure; but outside air will not work like Freon and it also contains moisture which will freeze and block passages. That condition requires a Vacuum purge of the system and fixing the leak, then refilling the system with Freon.

Some of the bigger autoparts chains will Loan(deposit required) the proper tools to do some of this yourself. BUT if misused, you could cause more damage than the money you would pay someone to fix this in the first place.

A minimum attempt. Get a bigger can of Freon with a gauge and leak stop inside the can. You may be able to boost the pressure and seal the leaks with the right type of product. It may work. Follow the instructions and see if you can salvage what you have.

Where is the relay for the compressor clutch located

The actual part is usually a pressure switch. There are 2, one for high pressure and a second for low pressure. The low pressure switch is often on the black oblong tank or closest to it.

To test the low pressure switch you can unplug it and get an insulated looped wire to place into the harness connector you removed. Then while the engine is running and the controls are set for A/C, you briefly connect the wire into the harness to bypass the part.

If the compressor clutch makes a noise and engages, remove the wire.
The compressor is on a safety lockout. You must find a Freon leak and restore the Freon to the system. Depending on whether the Freon is all gone or just low will determine your next step.

You can borrow gauges from Autozone, Advance, or Oreilys for a refundable deposit. If no Freon is present, you need to purge the system after fixing the leak. There are additional products used to find leaks.
Ask at the autoparts places. There are also leak sealers.

If you are lucky enough to be just low on Freon, adding a can of Freon with sealer may fix it. The autoparts places can tell you more about this.

The common mistake is in overfilling the system or with severe leaks, failing to add oil to the compressor. The gauges, manifold gauges as they are called, are needed for best results.

You want a moderate charge in the system. If you are off on either high or low end pressure, the switches will kill the compressor clutch. A moderate charge will keep the compressor operating more steadily.

Aside from the pressure switches, the system can have a fuse in the fuseblock. I believe your problem will be with the pressure switches and low Freon.

If air continues to leak from the pressure switch after cycle is indication that the check valve is not sealing or the pressure switch diaphragm has failed. Easy fix. Follow the 1/4 inch airline to the tank and remove the line from the brass valve(check valve). If air is leaking at the brass valve, remove it and attempt to clear debris under valve or replace as needed. If no air is leaking from the checkvalve, then most likely diaphragm is leaking. You could replace the diaprhagm or the whole switch. Generic switch is available thru ebay about 18- $20

Turn water on then actuate wand trigger. Pressure washer leaks when wand trigger is actuated and has very low pressure/flow output. After releasing trigger the pressure cycles on - off at approx 1 second...

You gave a very close solution yourself for the problem. But other leakages can cause such symtoms.Forexample a leaking head or a leaking chemical inlet. These can be caused because the spill valve (pressure control valve) is stuck. When this valve stucks it will leave a micro switch ON. So the machine keeps working with the gun closed. This will in turn creat internal pressure and damages the head, valves and chemical non-return and even damage outlet hose. So besides fixing the leakages you must check and service the spill valve. I often replace the spill valve. One must also checks if the micro switch is faulty. Now very important that what you mentioned that the machine cycles at one minute intervals, with trigger closed...this is most probably always the spill valve fault. If you open machine you see a place where there is a wire..this belongs to the micro switch...under you find the spill valve. Intake and suction valves may now also have a fault. Also there are systems with non-return valves at the machine outlet. You have to tackle by elimination. Fix the leakage..then tackle spill valve and micro switch.
