first of all, remove the power connector and the battery before u do anything on that laptop.
remove the 3 screws in the middle cover. remove that middlecover by putting a screwdriver in one of those holes which are covering the displaybrackets. pull it up slowly. same thing goes for the opposite side.
there you go remove the 2 screws which are holding the keyboard and the cable to the mainboard.

On the back of the laptop remove the battery and any screws under it, if you look just above the keyboard theres a seperate peice of plastic now remove any screws on the back that could potentially screw into it and remove it (theres normally clips aswell and sometimes you have to slide it either left or right first. Then theres normally a screw holding the keyboard in normally locted in the centre and 'sunk-in' deeper than the rest of them remove that and the keyboard should lift up, careful its still attatched via a zif connector, remove this by pulling up the little tags at the edges of the connector pulling it out (should come out easily) then you looking for either a single cell battery or a black thing in the shape of a battery with a black and a red wire coming out of it.

there are couple of steps involved in formating the laptop.
i will try to give simple and easy solution
--> save/backup all your important data into external hard drive or DVD/CD so you will not loose the data
--> i hope you have the xp cd with you
--> put the xp cd in the drive
--> restart the computer
--> press del/f2 to go to BIOS (setup)
--> in boot configure first drive should be your dvd drive
--> press F10/ save changes and exit
--> it will ask press any key to load from cd
--> after that the xp setup will start
--> follow the instructions
--> you can delete and create partitions here too or simply format the drive
--> install the xp
--> install the drivers
--> your laptop is ready to go but dont forget to change the BIOS setting to normal again.
hope it will help you sir.
