It takes work and the quickest and easiest way i found to make money is to sell things from junk to quality items and run free ads in the local paper and craig's list. the first things i gathered for sale came from the stockpile from around my home. i went through all the boxes and junk that has been collected over the years oops i mean decades including things from the junk drawers in the kitchen.
be careful on the junk some turned out to be very collectible and brought in good money, so if you have any doubt make use of the internet and do your research. i found some old camera's stored in a box left behind from pop's and one camera alone was valued over $3,000 dollars. i then took them to the nearest camera show in my area which they hold one every month at a nearby park not to far from my house and sold the whole box for $1,000 to one of the dealers. needless to say that was a good day, but in the meantime while i was waiting on the camera show i went through every nook an cranny in the house, and the garage. i found enough variety of items i could have open a thrift store.
i separated all the vintage, antiques and collectibles where i did most of my research on, i found vintage sterling silver flatware, and just one fork brought in 80 bucks, an old gold plated pen brought in $200, i found old coins to baseball cards, and cookbooks i was surprise people wanted and cannot find any where else because they are out of print.
all the other miscellaneous junk i set aside for a garage sale and priced them accordingly. what you need to watch out for are the people that will try to beat you out of something. these people are the one's that want to buy cheap and resell what you have to offer.
some jackets sell best on craig's list, like older sports jackets others sold better on ebay with the bidding process, either way i made use of garage sale on the weekend and made average $300 per day when i was just starting.
jewelry broken or not you should set them aside and not sell them until you know what you have in true value because people will try to get them for scrap and you could loose a small fortune because others are willing to pay wholesale value and that beats scrap value any day.
the place i do my research in amazon for most out of print books to give a general idea what you should ask for them, ebay is okay to get some ideal on prices. on the antiques, make use of the antique shops in your area they are a great source of information, in most cases you can sell to them, they need to replenish their stock somehow, and that is one of the ways they do it they buy from people like us. if you have an item to large to carry, around take pictures and show antique dealers what you have to offer.
consignment shops is another great place to take things, they may take up to fifty percent but they also know what things sell for so if you don't know what to ask on a price they can help and in most cases pending the item you can make more than what it would sale for on ebay or craig's list even while giving away 50 percent. in one month i made over $6,000 dollars and as my stock got low i started collecting free things off craig's list plus family, friends and coworkers started to give me good things they just wanted to get rid of, including brand name cloths with tags still on them.
there are many ways to make money including selling a service pending your skills just take stock in what you have to offer from around the house and in yourself some college students need help from people with experience and they don't mind paying for the extra help.
myself i give away many of my skills just to help people i am asked why don't i charge for my help? my reply shall always remain the same "then it would not be help, it would be a service."
anyhow, my garage since has emptied out so i set it up as a mini thrift-store, i obtained a free display case where i keep most of the valuables, such as vintage fishing reels, jewelry, to other what knots. i don't want walking off. i have shelves and a cloths rack, adult cloths does not sell as well as children cloths, which i got all free from family, friends and craig's list and since it was all free now no matter what i sell the items for i am making money.
just keep in mind i have anywhere from one thousand to two thousand items in my home store at all times, most items sell from one to ten dollars. my ten-dollar items i would not sell for less than $10, period never ever less than $10 same with the five dollars items because they will always sell for more and if you can sell a thousand items per month, you are making bank right now i am up from 300 items per month to 450.
just think about it even if it takes a year to sell one thousand ($10) ten-dollar items that is still $10,000 bucks at the end of the year. depending where you live or rent at like some places in mississippi, alabama, to tennessee you can rent a two-three bedroom home for $400 a month and $10,000 will pay your rent for nearly two and a half years, california not so much but it is still better than nothing. nevertheless, no mater what it takes just do it and the money will come myself i am now open most days from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm.
there are things you have to learn such what are the best days to be open and what is seasonal like camping and fishing gear, other things is like sports memorabilia if a popular team is doing well it sells fast if not it could sit there for awhile. so, even if it's not your favorite team and you can get some of it free grab up on it, then hold on to it for a little while when they are kicking tires put the items out for sale or just keep them out who cares right!
either way if you can empty out your home from all the accumulated junk and free up your garage you can open up a small store in your home. if you don't have a garage, you can always rent a small storage unit; place ads's and sell from there. take pictures of what you got place it on craig's list set up several appointments for the same day because there will be flaks but the best part is when someone shows up and they see what else you have to offer they will shop and make offers or ask for your price.
oh just remember if you have a thousand items you can sell for at least $50 bucks regardless of the value and you sell those thousand items used or new in a years time that is $50,000 dollars. therefore be sure you have certain items that you have a set price work on an average for other items take whatever you can get for it do your best not to miss a sale but also do your best not to loose to much on a sale. the items i sell for ten dollars i will take anything between $5 and $10, any items i will not take less than $10 i will ask anywhere from $20 to $25 to start and the majority of the time i will make above the $10. the items i will not take less than $10 is valued anywhere from $50 to $100 dollars it depends on the condition, poor, fair, good, to like new and adjust price based on condition. other words if you have an item valued at $300 and it is like new asking a hundred bucks for it is not unreasonable but i would not take no less than $50 they just don't need to know that and once you get your cliental built up you have a regular income you can count on.
key words that bring people, antiques, collectible, vintage-fishing lures, tools, kids toys, good used children cloths etc just make sure you have some.
simply said search your home and ask family and friends for things they want to get rid of including the junk take and sell it at wholesale, or used prices. if you get it free no matter what you sell it for you are making money and try to sell a thousand items in the shortest time as possible or start with a hundred items and go from there.
selling free items is the best way and a buck is a buck and they add up fast! i also have cameras so when times are slow i can see people on my tv while having lunch and watching my favorite programs. tv's with pip, and pop are great.
