I need to reset my router password.

You will need to log into your router with the IP Address, userid and password, then you can change the router password.

You do realize that the Router Password just lets you get into the router to make changes to it.

The Wireless Password is what allows people to connect their wireless devices or laptops to the internet via the router. If you need to change the wireless password then once you get into the router go to the wireless tab or wireless security and change it.

The manual will give you the router's IP address, default userid and password. Also it might be on a sticker on the side or bottom of the router. The wireless password or network key might be on it also.

If you need the manual go to Belkin's website.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Belkin Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Look for Manuals throughout the site.

Below is a direct link to their site where you just plug in your model number.

How do i put a paswood in

Hi Friend,

I believe you want to configure the security settings on router to make your network secured.
Please follow the steps in order to resolve the issue.

1. Open the web browser and type 192.168.1.1 and hit enter.
2. If you have not changed the router login password then do not type anything in the username and type admin as password and hit enter.
3.Click Wireless Tab and fill the sections as mentioned:
make sure in the configuration view manual is selected.
Netwrok Mode: Mixed
Network Name: As per ypur choice
Channel Width:20 MHZ only
Channel :Auto
SSID Broadcast : Enable and click Save settings.
4.Now click Wireless Security (just beside the basic wireless settings tab) and fillthe sections as mentioned:

Security:WPA Personal
Passphrase: ten digit passwrod (preferrably your phone number)
Key renewal: 3600 seconds and click save settings.

Turn off the router for 30 seconds and switch it on. When you will connect your wireless devices then it will ask you for a password then enter the password that you have entered on the router.

I hope this will resolve the issue.

Regards
Chiranjeet

Changed from DSL, to cable no router connection

1. You need to make sure that you have a "straight through" cable and not a "crossover".
2. the yellow cable that your cable company provided is the cable that goes from the rj45 wall connector to the "WLAN" connector in the back of the router.
If you go to router manufacturers site you will find the instruction how to to connect your router to the cable modem.
3. check also the firmware updates for your router at this site and download.
4.Use your setup disk and follow the instruction set for cable also. This should walk you through the proper setup .
YOu didn't provide the model number of your router, I would have given you the setup site for your particular router.
You can go to D-Link's site and download the PDF instruction also.

I have a dlink dl524 and trying to set security on it

Hi, I will lend a hand if I can.

Important Note! Use a wired connection to your router when setting up security.

There are four basic steps to setting up wireless security, which are the same for most routers:

1) Login to your router
2) Change the router login password/username
3) Change the network name, or SSID
4) Enable WPA encryption

Here are the details, taken from the Dlink site:

1) Login to your router.
Type the router address in the address bar of a web browser. For this router, the default is
192.168.0.1

You should see a popup box. If you have not changed the password, enter username: admin and leave the password blank.

This should bring up the configuration screen/user interface.

2) Change the router password.
If you haven’t set a password, this is a good place to start. Go to Admin > Tools. Set new admin and username passwords and click 'Apply'.

3) Change the SSID (router name):
Go to Home > Wireless, and change the SSID from ‘default’ to anything you like –as long as you can remember it. It is case sensitive, and you can usually use up to 32 letters – but don’t use something that could identify you, or your location. Click ‘Apply’ when finished.

4) Enable encryption
Still in Home > Wireless, select WPA-PSK.

Under ‘Passphrase’ you should enter a long password, or passphrase, between 8 and 63 letters/numbers long. This can be any series of letters/ numbers, or you can use a phrase with numbers ( eg - 456HapPY2009toyou8899). It is case sensitive.

The passphrase is also called the network key, and sometimes WPA shared key, PSK, pre-shared key, WPA-PSK, authentication key.

Note down the passphrase/network key carefully. You will need this to connect wirelessly. Click ‘Apply’ when finished.

That's it, you have done enough to secure your network, and can close the screen. (There are other options you can configure at a later stage if you wish.)

When you next connect wirelessly, you'll see the router with its new name in your 'available wireless networks'. When you attempt to connect, you are asked for the network key you set in Step 4. If all goes well, you can then save this and will connect automatically in future.

Hope this helps, but if it is not clear or doesn't work, please come back to Fixya. Good luck...

Securing wireless connection

Hi, I will lend a hand if I can. The fact is, a lot of security advice IS incomprehensible!

I'll try and set it out here, but if anything is not clear, please check back! Also bear with me if I tell you something you already know.

There are four basic steps to set up wireless security, which are the same for most routers:

1) Login to your router
2) Change the router login password/username
3) Change the network name, or SSID
4) Enable WPA encryption

This is enough to secure the connection, though you can take further steps when you are up and running.

Here are the details:

1) Login to your router.
Type the router address in the address bar of a web browser. For this router, it is http://192.168.1.1

You should see a popup box. If you have not changed the password, enter username: admin and password: admin

This should bring up the configuration screen/user interface.

2) Change the router password.
If you haven’t set a password, this is a good place to start. Go to LAN setting >Password. Set new admin and username passwords and click 'Apply'.

Ensure this password is not easy to guess, or someone could log into your router and view/change all your settings. It's also a good idea to write this info on a label and stick it on your router.

3) Change the SSID (router name):
Go to Wireless > Basic, and change the SSID from ‘default’ to anything you like –as long as you can remember it. It is case sensitive, and you can usually use up to 32 letters – but don’t use something that could identify you, or your location. Click ‘Apply’ when finished.

4) Enable encryption
Go to Wireless > Authentication.. Select WPA-PSK - strictly speaking the correct option depends on your wireless adapter. However, this is usually a good choice to start off. You might also need to select Shared Key on this menu option – I’m not familiar with this router so bear with me.

You may see one or more new options pop up. I would start by leaving most settings at the default. However, under Pre-Shared Key/Network Key you should enter a long password, or passphrase, between 8 and 63 letters/numbers long. This can be any series of letters/ numbers, or you can use a phrase with numbers ( eg - 456HappynEWYeartoyou8899). It is case sensitive.

Note down the network key carefully. You will need this to connect wirelessly. (The network key may also be called a WPA shared key, PSK, pre-shared key, passphrase, authentication key). Click ‘Apply’ when finished.

That's it, you have done enough to secure your network, and can close the screen.

Security please help ,,how do i set up my internet security for wireless internet so i have a secure seting that non familly members are locked out

You have to log into your router to do this. Your manual will explain how to do this. You did not say what brand of router this is. The name will be on the router along with the model number.
You can reset the router to factory settings if you insert a pin into the tiny hole in the back. Then you will need to look in the manual to tell you how to set it up.
Wireless settings will need to be passworded as per the manual. Go to the web site and find the drivers and the manual. This can not be done by one of us here. We can help after you have done everything that I told you to do but it will work if you follow my directions.

You will have to make a wireless password and it will have to be put on all of the other computers.

Cant connect

Hi purplegarion,

hook up the router per instruction in manual and your particular internet connection.  With the Di524 powered up, use the end of a paperclip to depress the reset button located in a little hole beside the power connection.   open internet explorer and type in 192.168.0.1 and press enter.  The password is admin. once th screen appears, click on Wizard.  Follow the wizards directions carefully.

For simplicity of security click on the wireless button while in the  wireless screen.  Set radio to on.  Enter a SSID like purplegarion. Set to open system.  Set Security to WEP.  Wep to HEX.  64bit.  Enter into Key one a 10 digit number you can remember like 1234567890.  Click apply.  Change your password to a personal password other than ADMIN.

Any device that attaches will need to enter the WEP 64 Bit hex Security key 1234567890, or whatever 10 digit number you put in the router.

Internet connection will require powering down you modem, and the DI-524 router.  power up the modem first and let it go through the start up, then power up thte DI 524.  you may need to make sure your DHCP is set to Automatically assign an IP address.
