Question about Dell XPS 200 PC Desktop
I dont know anymore about it.I bought it at a garage sale.It is running win.XP.The start light is a bright green, and it stays that way. What can be the problem?Any help would be welcomed.Don
And what happens after the video format message? Does the computer boot? Does Windows XP run OK?
If so, look at your Startup folder to see if a link to a video file is there (and starting up automatically).
Once you find it, move that like to your desktop and / or delete it from the Startup folder.
If video is starting by an entry in the registry (in the Run section), then it's another story, and I wouldn't recommend that you touch or edit the registry if you don't have the experience.
Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP back in April, no security updates, so you are at risk in terms of security. Consider upgrading to Windows 7, or buying a machine from a source other than a garage sale. Just suggesting.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Download the Video driver from Dell's website, Enter your service tag number (which it on a label located on the back of the unit) in the second line on this page. It will bring up the correct driver for your unit.
copy and paste the link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.

You would probably do right to reinstall Windows. The bios handed off to Windows long before the splash screen comes up. It is probably a faulty driver or corrupt registry entry. If it was me I would reload Windows

Can you hear any cooling fans running?
Shut the PC down and un-plug it (monitor too)
Open the case
Take a can of compressed air and blow out the fan on the power supply, the power supply itself and main processor cooling fan. There should be a cover over the processor fan that will either have to be removed or swung open.
Try to remove as much dust or dirt from the inside of the PC as possible (you might want to do this work somwehere where the dust won't go all over the place)
If this doesn't help, you can try re-seating the memory boards and plug harnesses on the motherboard, but be careful. If you aren't comfortable with this kind of work or you aren't sure what I mean, you could take it to a PC repair shop.
Please be aware that there can be other causes for a computer to freeze up such as software issues. There is a great FREE program on the market called CClean. It is a really good utility for helping to keep a PC running well. Find it at http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
It's a good idea to clean out your PC at least twice per year.

SOURCE: DELL XPS 210 WONT POWER ON
The power supply may have gone south or there may be an overload on the motherboard, memory or one of the drives. Unplug one drive and restart, then another and another. Remove the memory and retry. If still nothing, try another supply. If still nothing, you may need professional help.
