You have a gas washing machine? If you are talking about a dryer, shut off gas valve, get a vaccuum and clean burner area well, then make sure connections are tight and the line to pilot light is not crimped, and hold match near pilot light while turning on gas.

You have to hold the button down in the pilot position to allow gas to go to the pilot while you click the igniter. Hold the button down for a minute or two to allow the thermocouple to heat up, then turn the knob on the gas valve to the normal position. It should work providing that the pilot is capable of remaining lit. If not, then it could have a defective thermocouple or gas valve (aquastat).

If pilot stay lit, then thermocouple is working.
If pilot will light, then you have gas. If pilot goes out when pilot button is released, then thermocouple is next suspect.

Thermocouple tip must sit in pilot flame.
The pilot light heat applied to two different metals inside thermocouple causes small current.
The current travels back to gas control valve through copper line.
If the gas valve receive this current, then a magnetic switch stays open and allows gas into the gas control valve.
The magnetic switch is on the end of the red button you push down when lighting pilot. Essentially the red button is an override to the magnetic switch.
If the gas control valve does not receive the current, then the magnetic switch does not stay open when you release the red button.
When replacing thermocouple, note that it is not screwed very tight into the gas control valve. Finger tight + 1/4 turn. If it is overtightened, then the small thermocouple current shorts out against the gas control body.

While holding down the control knob for the pilot, you either have to use the pilot ignitor or match light the pilot. Then old the knob in for 60 seconds, before releasing it. If the pilot remains lit, turn the control knob to ON. If the pilot does not remain lit, the Thermocouple or Thermopile may need to be replaced.

Hope this helps you to solve the problem.

Hi there.
Thermopile must be free of soot or any form of dirt so that it coud absorb the right intensity of heat from the pilot flame for millivolt generation used in energizing the pilot and main valve electrical coils for pilot and burner operation. Pilot flame must be stable during fryer operation as well as the gas pressure being supplied to the unit.
All wiring connection must be tight, a very small amount of voltage generated by the thermopile or millivolts will not pass thru loosely connected wires.
Regards.

Pilot turns on but when I switch to turn it on,

When you light the pilot, are you holding it down for 30-60 seconds. When you release the pilot button, does the pilot flame stay lit? Or does it only go out when you turn the knob to on position. Make sure the pilot flame is heating the end of the thermocouple and that it's a strong blue flame, not a lazy yellow pilot flame. Make sure the tip of the thermocouple is not burn't off, which usually happens with lazy yellow pilot flames. Replace thermocouple is nothing else works.

Pilot wont light

The thermocouple provides the power to keep the pilot coil energized after being lit and sometimes also provides the power to operate the main gas valve. the gas you hear when you hold down the button is from you manually providing that gas. It does sound as if the spark ignitor it no good. Some use batteries and others don't. If the spark mechanism is used soley for lighting the pilot, then yes, you can light it with a match or butane lighter. Just have the flame there before you push down the button. Keep holding down the button for 30 seconds or so to warm the thermocouple after it is lit. Good-luck.

Hi there,

sounds like it has a faulty button. The "on" button on that model has a button on the front side which should hold the on button down after igniting. Check and make sure that it is there. I think it is a spring loaded button - maybe the spring has dis-lodged itself. If the button is faulty yhou can only replace it.

Hope this Helps
