Question about Dell Computers & Internet
Hello...I'm dis-assembling a Dell monitor and just examined the board, looking at the capacitors for damage. I found a hard semi-opaque substance in three separate areas: nearly covering two small capacitors, the power input, and touching another element hard to describe. It's as if they had been "spilled" from above when the stuff was warm. No ruptures observed yet in nearby capacitors and elements. I'm thinking of trying to remove the stuff by heating. Any ideas what this stuff is? (No mention of it in the tutorials that I've read.) Thanks.
Interesting; if it's not a substance from blown caps then is it perhaps something which oozed or dripped into the unit from the vented area from outside the unit?

Testimonial: "Thanks for your reply. Since the board is enclosed it is not likely that anything dripped through the vents. I now believe that the epoxy or whatever was spilled on the board at the factory. Don't know yet if this could have caused the problem, but I don't think so. Probably a blown cap hidden under the gunk..."
