Question about Dell Computers & Internet

What is this stuff and could it be shorting out my board ?

Hello...I'm dis-assembling a Dell monitor and just examined the board, looking at the capacitors for damage. I found a hard semi-opaque substance in three separate areas: nearly covering two small capacitors, the power input, and touching another element hard to describe. It's as if they had been "spilled" from above when the stuff was warm. No ruptures observed yet in nearby capacitors and elements. I'm thinking of trying to remove the stuff by heating. Any ideas what this stuff is? (No mention of it in the tutorials that I've read.) Thanks.

Interesting; if it's not a substance from blown caps then is it perhaps something which oozed or dripped into the unit from the vented area from outside the unit?

Testimonial: "Thanks for your reply. Since the board is enclosed it is not likely that anything dripped through the vents. I now believe that the epoxy or whatever was spilled on the board at the factory. Don't know yet if this could have caused the problem, but I don't think so. Probably a blown cap hidden under the gunk..."

I identified the gunk as silicone and gently got it off the power connectors. I reassembled the monitor and it now works again.( I did not touch the capacitors) .

My L194WT -SF WONT WORK NO POWER USED SAME POWER LEAD ON DIFFERENT MONITOR NO PROBLEM

Hello Steve,

The most common problem with the L194WT monitors is a failure of the power supply board. There are parts called capacitors that fail and can cause the issue you have. Sometimes the power light will just flash, sometimes it takes several minutes to display a picture or even a wavy picture, all of these issues indicate a failing power supply board. These boards can be repaired if you can do a little soldering. The L194WT uses the same power board as the L196WTQ and we have a step by step repair guide with dis-assembly instructions available at http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/lg-l196wtq-bf-lcd-monitor-repair/ Look over the guide and check your board to see if your capacitors have bulged and need to be replaced.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

I have a SyncMaster 920N Samsung Monitor and today it stops working. The power light is slightly constantly blinking, but the monitor is not turning on,when I m pressing power button. I tried changed power...

A fast blinking power light is an indication that the power supply is in a shorted condition. Parts called capacitors that filter the output power on the power supply board can fail and the power supply will short out causing the fast blinking power light. If you can solder then you can repair the monitor. Here is a link to a repair guide that has pictures and videos showing how to dis-assemble the unit and what to look for and replace to do the repair.

My screen on my dell 15 laptop flickers but stops for a while after a little tap

paddymaher, This symptom could be no more than just one bad poorly soldered electronic component that has over the years of use has become "thermally-intermittant" and need to be resoldered to restore unit to "like-new" condition. Left as-is unit will only get worse as the solder joint becomes more oxidized from the gases permitted to now "enter" what should be a "gas-tight" electrical connection. May need to use large magnifing glass to examine the printed circuit boards inside of the unit for "frosty looking" solder joints of the components soldered to the boards. 12fixlouie

While working the screen goes black. If you power

Try that monitor on another computer, if it does the same thing then you know the monitor is the issue. If the monitor works fine on another computer then you know that the video card on the original computer is faulty.

If the monitor is faulty, take it apart and look for capacitors that are puffy, if you see any puffy ones, replace them with capacitors of the same Uf rating and at least the same voltage or more.

The screen flashes on my Dell 1905FP Monitor, Is there a fix?

Hello,

This is a common indication of bad filter capacitors on the power supply board. Below is a picture of the power supply board with the problem capacitors circled in yellow. The repair is easy, you just need to replace those capacitors and the unit should be as good as new. Below the picture is also a link to a full repair guide showing how to dis-assemble the monitor and what parts need to be replaced. the repair guide has a full parts list for the job.

The monitor has a white screen when its turned on. nothing happened when its connected to a computer. What do you think the problem is?

Hello,

You may have a problem with the power supply board. On many LCD monitors after a few years the power supplies start failing. The problem is parts called capacitors start failing. They get damaged because of the heat trapped in the small spaces of the monitor case. You can take a look at a few pictures on our site at: www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm We also have a section with dis-assembly and repair instructions. Check it out, if you have more questions just email me. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we offer a repair service.

My dell 1905FP power button flashes green and will not turn off, the screen is black.

Hello,

This is a common indication of a failure in the power supply. There are parts called capacitors that are used in the filter section of the power supply, when they go out the power supply can't properly turn on so you get no picture and a flashing power light. Here is a picture of the power supply board with the problem filter capacitors circled in yellow and below the picture in a link to a repair guide with details dis-assemble and repair instruction along with parts list for the Dell 1905FP and 1907FP models.
