Question about Technics Audio Players & Recorders
Good Morning, I have a Technique Technics SA DX940 receiver which hums loudly whenever it is switched to "Phono" for playing the turntable. The turntable has been tested and works well. In fact, the receiver hums on "Phono" even if the turntable is disconnected. The problem is obviously the receiver. Question: Is there a removeable circuit board I can replace myself, or musy I take it in for repairs. ? If so, what is the name and part # I should purchase? Thanks for your time. H.O.
What type of turntable do you have? Some turntables must be grounded to the ground screw on the receiver. It may be the selector that needs to be cleaned. Use tuner spay cleaner (if you can still find some around) , also clean the RCA inputs. . If that does not work.. you may have to replace the receiver. The cost to repair is not worth it .

Ratnesh, I have this same receiver and the fan only comes on at certain volume levels. Unfortunately I now live in an apartment and can very rarely listen to it that loud. I had the same problem for a little while until I thought about moving the receiver to the lowest shelf with nothing on top of it. This seems to have worked so far although it does still get quite warm. Good luck!

The problem is the fact that the new receiver has no phono input. The phono input has an extra stage of amplification built in. Your receiver is working fine. You need to purchase a phono pre-amp. These run around $20. Connect the turntable to the preamp and the presmp output to any line level input on your new receiver and everything will work as expected.
