Audio distortion with desk mic

System: Yaesu MD-100 desk mic, FT-1000MP, and VL-1000 amp. Original owner. Beginning about 5 years ago, using the desk mic, produces bad audio after about 1 minute of xmit. 3 other mics, all Heil with no problem. Local tech cannot find the problem. Any ideas? 73, K9KUZ

there are switches on the bottom to shape the audio - I never used them, just had them set to "off", so I'll start with that. tnx. Jim.

I do not know your specific mic, but a lot of the Vertex (Yaesu) mics have a gain control built into them inside the housing. Take it apart and look for the control near the microphone. The ones I have worked on were rotary. Try moving one way, then the other until you get the best sound to the end user.

The mic has some switches under it, to shape the audio. I'll check these. tnx. Jim.

You'll probsbly find the cardioid unit is faulty in they mic, Ive had this happen before. Being a capacitor type device it can take minutes to hours to occur sometimes.

Dbl check your swr in am mode.. Ch your ssb power and mic gain default is 50 on both on hf .. If you use the mh-59 you will need to reduce the mic gain to 35 and it needs to be set for remote mic in the menu. Also the ssb needs to be set 2.5k wide with the ssb carrier zeroed both tx and rx

Hi,

Are you referring to reception through your radio speaker, or transmission to another station?

If it's reception, then what antenna are you using, indoor or outdoor?

I need answers to these questions, before I try to resolve your issue.

Please reply with as much detail as possible, don't be afraid to ask questions in full detail, the more info I receive, the sooner I can assist you.

Best regards,
Peter

Will not receive and transmit on 15mtrs and 17mtrs

Hi Seamus,

Is this only on those bands, not an issue with other bands?

If so, then your radio may not be fitted with the correct frequencies to transmit on those bands, they are after all allocated in part to the Amateur operators, which requires licensing to operate.

The fact you can't Tx/Rx, indicates this to be the issue.

I can't help you if you are not a licensed HAM Operator, sorry...

Enjoy the other bands available for your radio.

Cheers,
Peter

Any ham radio store should be able to obtain these - if they are still in production / stock by Yaesu. Ham Radio Outlet aka "HRO" has stores nationwide and can ship direct.

I hope this helps!
