I GENERALLY DRAIN THE SEDIMENT BOWL OF OLD GAS AND CAN THEN ALSO ENSURE THAT GASOLINE IS GETTING THROUGH THE NEEDLE VALVE CONTROLLED BY THE FLOAT. (OFTEN THAT GETS PLUGGED) CHECK FOR A WET SPARK PLUG, IN CASE THE CYLINDER HAS BEEN FLOODED BY TOO MUCH GAS. IF NOT FLOODED, PUT A TEA SPOON OF GASOLINE DIRECTLY INTO THE CYLINDER. REPLACE PLUG, AND ATTEMPT TO START. IT SHOULD AT LEAST RUN TILL THE GAS IN CYLINDER IS BURNED UP. IF NOT, LET ME KNOW, AND WE CAN GO FROM THERE.

You may have to take the carb off & take it
apart & clean it

Gas gets dried up in the jets

Needed to have that running in Oct -- so you were ready

If you leave any fuel in it or the carb--- run it every 6 weeks
year round or you got what you have

If the carb was clean-- it should start on the second or third
pull, even if it sat for 8 months with old fuel

Only use fresh fuel in power equipment & stabil

Fuel lasts 30 days only in anything

Clean the spark plug electrodes with an exacto knife

I would make sure that there is new fuel in the tank. Most of the time the fuel in the tank goes stale. Ethanol that is used in gasoline now loses it potency over time and will not burn correctly. Evacuate old gas and put some fresh gas in the tank and try again. Place to start anyways.

SOURCE: will not start

Actually, first you always check to see if there is adequate good condition oil. Then gas, then crank it a few seconds and pull the plug I see if its wet from fuel. If so, disconnect the ground wire from the coil(s) and try to start it. If it starts then try and find where the wires are grounding

It is time to rebuild your carburetor paying special attention to the float and seat.
Gasket set is about $30 delivered and gallon can of gunk carb cleaner with a parts basket is $21 at kragen auto parts. takes about two to three hours. Or you can but a new carb for about $150.

SOURCE: Electric start turns over, but engine doesn't

If gas has been sitting in the carburetor since last season, The carburetor will need to be cleaned out and rebuilt. Some ports may be clogged up that allow gas to flow.

Snow blower starts than it dies out I changed the spark plug new gas don't know whats the problem

I suspect the carburetor needs cleaning. Gas nowadays is terrible on equipment that sits for long periods of time (like a snow blower) without being used. The gas nowadays goes stale very quickly and gums up the carburetor. To prevent these issues use a gas stabilizer. I have stabilizer in all my jerry cans of gas. That way everything I fill up is ready to be stored at any time.
I'll give you an example of how bad the gas is.... My neighbour bought a new lawn mower. Selling feature of the mower was "guaranteed to start first or second pull". The next year it wasn't starting properly so he took it back. He was told he didn't store the mower properly over the winter (He didn't use a gas stabilizer) so no warranty. Took the carb apart and cleaned it ran like a champ....

Lost my manual for toro 418ze snow blower. cant remember how to start it

The gas is bad. You have to add preservatives to it before you store it. Now you need to drain the sour gas and put in new gas. Then try to start it again.

Draining the gas from the tank doesn't drain the float bowl in the carburetor. It still had last year's gas in it. Gas will start to turn to varnish if left sitting 6 to 12 months. You'll probably have to remove the carburetor, disassemble it and clean it out with Gumout carb cleaner or some similar product.
When you get it running and the snow's over and done with, put some Stabil in the gas tank to prevent the gas from converting to varnish and then start it up and run it until that stabilized gas is through the carburetor and into the engine. You can leave it with the treated gas in the tank.

I just bought a Sears snow thrower, I put in oil and gas went to start it but the pull cord will not pull up. I then tried the electric starter but it just made a grinding sound. Why won t it start?

Check the crankcase and make sure it has oil. It sounds like the engine is frozen. If its brand new, take it back to Sears and have them start it for you.
