Hoover F5914900: when left sitting for awhile there remains a large puddle of liquid on the floor. where would it be leaking or coming from.

it happened to me (different model, but same principle of operation) - now to remember how I fixed it. The easy way is to remove the solution tank if it is going to set a while. When the tank is sitting on the platform, the valves are open and the water goes into a sponge in that platform. I had to disassemble that platform. It may have been that the sponge was deformed and was not blocking the opening under the tank and I replaced the sponge. When the machine is running it sucks water and/or solution. When it is not the sponge holds back the water. Hope this points you in the right direction as that is all I remember.

I have a Hoover V Steam Vac model F7412. The tank for the clean water and cleaner fluid leaked out the bottom. I purchased a new tank but something in that area is still leaking. I know it is not the...

My clean solution tank is leaking from the bottom, too. It is not a hose or a valve. The clean solution tank is leaking in-between the clear plastic walls of the solution tank & the grey plastic bottom that are connected, together. I was thinking of caulking it all around the bottom where the clear plastic sides join the grey bottom plastic. I can't get into ordering a new one (spending $) unless Hoover will send me a new one for free. Purchased at Kohl's in Massapequa, NY in June 2008. There's a one year warrantee AND the directions say to EMPTY the solution tank after each use. Which I normally do because the tank runs dry.

How do I get the u5290-900 apart far enough to remove old power cord and plug in a new one?

First you need to remove the Dirt Cup followed by the front cover / handle. Page 4 1-6 of the PDF Manual below shows how to do this.

http://static.fixya.com/Manuals/H/Hoover/5288_900_prg_B4F5E4DE0DB02590E2525C367EFB5C4C.pdf

This should then give you access to remove the internal cover and replace your cable.

Red light stays on and never goes back to green....

This is a common problem with this model. There is a microphone in the rear duct that is not firmly seated. Usually this can be cured by removing the duct at the rear of the vacuum, that the hose attaches to, and using a small screwdriver to push around the outer edges of the small round microphone button. It may not look as if anything is happening, but this will usually cure the problem. I like to put a small piece of sponge or rubber against the mike to hold it more firmly in place prior to re-assembly.

The panel came off of my SteamVac water tank, and I can't figure out how to get it back in! HELP!

I think that you mean the little white/grey/sometimes clear panel that fits on the dirty water tank.

Remove the lid of the dirty water tank, and slide it down the front of the machine to the clear housing below. It will only fit in one way as it is somewhat triangular shaped.

if this is not the piece in question, the manual is here for you :

Good luck.

My suction blocked light keeps coming on my Hoover Whisper vacuum. I've check all areas and can't find a blockage.

Remove the filter bin and open the compartment pictured under it. You probably need to wash the sponge filter per the manual. It fixed the problem for me and doubled the suction.

Vacuum cleaner filters

Sponge filters should be washable. I have found that "FLASH" lemon floor cleaner is by far the best, but washing up detergent will do (far too many bubbles to get rid of for my liking!). I find pouring the detergent onto the sponge and working it in before dunking it in very warm water works best. Despite not being very washable, most paper filters can be washed if you have no other choice and you take care. Just pour on cleaner and then dunk up and down in hot water. Then leave in the airing cupboard for a couple of days to dry. It should get you by until you can find somewhere to buy a new paper filter.

Solution does not dispense

The trigger that releases the water is connected by a piece of plastic inside the handle. This plastic tends to bend over time, so it won't press the plunger high enough. I brought it to a vac repair place for the same reason and they added an extension which made all the difference. If I were to do it myself next time, I would look to see if a metal rod were possible to take the place of the plastic. Maybe not, but it would be worth a look.

HOOVER SPINSCRUB WONT SUCK UP WATER...BLOWING AIR OUT

ITS THE DUCT PIECE ON THE FRONT OF THE DIRTY WATER TANK (DWT). ITS NOT LINED UP.
1. TAKE LID OFF OF DWT
2. SLIDE THE LITTLE SQUARE PIECE (5'X5'X1) (THE DUCT) ON THE FRONT OF THE DWT AS FAR UP AS POSSIBLE AND IF IT BENDS FORWARD FROM THE TOP, DO THAT TOO (SOME MODELS OPEN LIKE A DOOR TOP DOWN, OTHERS JUST SLIDE UP AND OUT COMPLETELY)
3. SLIDE THAT DUCT BACK DOWN AS FAR DOWN AND BACK AS IT WILL GO.
4. PUT THE LID BACK ON BY HINGING THE FRONT LATCHES ON AND THEN SNAPPING THE BACK SIDE DOWN.
5. CHECK TO SEE IF THAT DUCT PIECE ON THE FRONT IS LOOSE BY PUSHING ON IT AND SEEING IF IT MOVES UP AND DOWN.
IF IT IS, THE LID ISNT COMPLETELY ON, GO BACK TO STEP 4.
IF THE DUCT IS SNUG, CONGRATS YOU SHOULD HAVE JUST MADE YOUR STEAM VAC **** UP THE WATER AGAIN
