Likely either your thermostat is stuck open or is incorrect one (should be a 195f) , Or, the electric or clutch fan is on too early and not shutting off, or...the temperature sensor is not working and therefore telling the computer that the engine is cold when it's not. If the computer is believing that the engine is still cold, it remains in cold-start mode regardless of what is actually happening.

97 TJ 2.5 WILL NOT GO OVER 60 MPH AND RUNS FINE.

You may need to replace the fuel filter. Have you checked to see if maybe the exhaust system is plugged? To check the exhaust have someone rev the engine while you feel the exhaust coming out of the tail pipe. You should be able to feel quite abit of exhaust from 1 1/2 to 2 feet away when engine is reved to say 3000 rpm. If you can't feel the exhaust then disconnect the exhaust pipe in front of the converter and drive the car. It will be a little bit loud but you will know if the exhaust is plugged or not. If it goes faster than before then it is plugged. Hope this helps.

What type of transmission do i have?

Your Wrangler is a YJ and the model is an "S". A Wrangler manufactured in 1987 through 1995 are all YJ's and then from 1997 through 2006 are all TJ's. The new Wrangler models are dubbed JK's.
