Re: router stopped working altogether

Yes...... it is a defective router completely. The components inside it are notorious for going bad. Thank goodness they will ship you another one (But you gotta pay something like $16 USD)... too bad it is the same exact router. UGH I'm sticking with Linksys. This darn thing was pretty expensive too..... Check and read their forums and customer support sections. You guys (and myself included) are not the only ones this is happening to.

Re: router stopped working altogether

Just face it. This router is one of the worst of it's kind. Alot of people worldwide are experiencing the exact same problem.

Netgear will keep sending you a new one, but it will crash again and again and again. If you are not into N yet.. go for the WPN824 MIMO router. This one is excellent!!!

Weird--same problem! Just out of the blue. Cable modem connection to the internet it fine; right now I'm just connecting the modem directly to my computer. When the modem is connected to the WNR854T router though, only the power light is on. I've checked the cable connections and they're fine.

Re: router stopped working altogether

Please check your cable connections; are the lights blinking? try connecting your computer directly to the modem dsl port that is connected was to the router if connection can be restored.

I would like to know what the differnt lights/symbols on the front of the router means

The first light from the right is the power light

The saturn looking icon is the internet light, it will lit up if you have something connected to the internet port of the router.

The curving lines is for the wireless broadcast, it will not lit up if the SSiD broadcast is disabled.

The button in the middle is for WPS ( Wi-fi Protected Setup )

and you've got the wired ethernet ports.

Ethernet LAN light goes off after few seconds

when the booting all light are turn on that's normal , after few second ethernet light momently on because ethernet chip internaly loop and check the ethernet chip that why you seen the ethernet light momently on after that ethernet should lit on if you connect router ethernet link to pc or ethernet switch.
pls check the ethernet cable , if you connect to ethernet switch pls try with cross over cable and if you connected to pc pls check duplex to auto or forced to 100 Mbps

Router stopped working altogether

You can try doing a master reset. (must refer to owners manual on how to) or replace the entire unit. Most likely the unit has failed.

Thanks, Frank

Set up

No. You do not need to have a computer connected via a CAT5 (Ethernet) cable to the router for a laptop to access the wireless signal.

However, to set up the router to broadcast that wireless signal or to alter some of the wireless security settings you will have to connect directly to the router with a CAT5 (Ethernet) cable.

If you need assistance connecting to that wireless connection, let me know. I have some instructions which can help retrieve the security information from the router so you can connect to the Internet via the wireless signal.

I unplugged the cable connected to my desktop and the wireless function stopped working

You must always have a 'host' adaptor whether you want a LAN or a WAN. Go to your configuration utility or control panel via your Run command to set or view your options. Steve Medley
