Question about JUMP START SYSTEM

3 Answers

I have a Vector VEC1095A. Can't get the Battery Type to change to the type battery being charged.

Usually I could press the "Battery Type" and the light on the left would cycle from "Wet" to "Gel" to "Agm". Does not operate now.

Hi Billy. That is a very nice unit. Here is a link to the operator manual for it:
http://documents.dewalt.com/documents/English/Instruction%20Manual/Vector/VEC1095A.pdf

I would suggest that you unplug the charger completely and try again. If no go, try again with another battery. If that doesn't work then it sounds like the charger has malfunctioned. Is it still under warranty? If it won't change types, you can get an idea of how it is charging by monitoring the voltage as it charges up a known good battery.

Good luck!

Is there a malfunction code..of not your machine should auto set to gell default at the start then auto change..try this put it on the battery and plug it in and let it charge for awhile some batteries need to wake up..the charger should sense that and auto set..to what ever battery you have cars are normally WET give it a try you may even want to set it to the highest setting for a min or so to get things stiring....good lu k

Looks like a touch pad type switch. Sometimes they oxidize and don't contact properly, especially if the unit has been left in a garage, car trunk or in an unheated location. Try pressing the switch many many times putting your finger on the whole pad area and sort of rubbing it rather than a straight press.

If none of this works it still may be under warranty.

I have a vector 300 amps that will not charge or hold a charge. This is the first time i needed a jump and did not work!It must be a MANUFACTURER DEFECT.What to do? Your Customer I would like a replac

I know how you feel because I had the same problem with mine until I read about the procedure.
Most of those Jump start chargers unfortunately require that you charge them when you buy it and then maintain the charge at least once a month.
There is usually a light on the charger to indicate that the charger is fully charged.

I own a Vector Industrial Series 900 to jumpstart system and power. When we recently moved the cord was lost and now I am in need of buying the new cord. Is this availale?

I advise caution when using a standard battery charger to charge a jumpstarter via the main leads. Firstly if there is polarity protection it probably won't work and secondly the heart of the jumpstarter is a sealed lead acid battery which does not usually tolerate high charge currents without shortening the life of the battery.
This type of battery needs either the low charge current supplied by the original charger or similar or a sophisticated regulated charger.

If using a standard charger avoid using a high performance type and use only the type that provides a trickle charge.

How do you use the vector start it pro to charge a battery

The overall verdict is this is a poor quality jump starter which has an unreliable charger and a battery that will die if you don't look after it. However, I found one fair report on Amazon amongst many bad ones:
"The compressor on this unit, like so many others this small, is really only made for pumping up toys or bicycle tires. So don't buy this unit for that purpose. Go to a gas station with quarters and use their air vender.
If, like me, you bought a used unit, you will need to get both the manual and the charger. Do a search on servicenet dewalt to find the owners manual. The manual is a download pdf. Charger model number is 514005-42.
Hope this helps. It's really a neat little device to have around. I especially like the built-in LED flashlight.
You really NEED to read the manual all the way through. The special sealed type battery requires charging at least every 60 days or it WILL go bad quickly."
The Manual is here: http://documents2.dewalt.com/documents/English/Instruction%20Manual/Vector/VEC010BD.pdf
Because I'm an engineer I know I could easily replace the 12v lead-acid battery charger, open the box and replace the battery with another 12v say 200 Amp cranking (short circuit effectively) battery but I would tend to spend a bit more on a gel battery of similar spec 'cos it basically is the only sort that should be used for deep cycle discharge with such a small volume battery. Good luck.

Power inverter installation?? (Vector 2500W in Tacoma truck)

Don, There are two ways in which I would have satisfyied the 6 foot guide line. 1. Mounted the VECTOR under the hood. 2. Supplied the VECTOR with additional "bed mounted" battery to be charged via the present wiring with a two pole single throw "knife switch" as as the "connect/disconnect to the vehicle battery/alternator for charging the new battery. In any case, you should make it a twice yearly thing to inspect the 15 feet of wire now installed, for wear and tear faults that could result in sparks, smoke, fire. You may need to visit local electrical supply house to see what they have to offer in the way of small "breaker-boxes" that may be capable of handling such large GAGE wire. I MEAN #2 gage wire IS very thick and expensive per foot!!!! A disconnect box similar to type found mounted to brick-work and next to and connecting a 1.5 to 2 ton central air unit might do the trick. But anyhow, if you are not going to use the VECTOR disconnect the POSITIVE lead at the battery and tape the connector with electrical tape to be safe. Let me know how it works out for you. lmistyrel@ aim.com 12fixlouie

My Vector Vec157 Flashlight won't Charge...

It is the battery, I have a similiar Vector light for a few years and tried re-charging the battery but only the little LED light would come on. I have another Vector light, same model and switched batteries from the worjking one to the non-working one and now it works fine.

I then proceeded to purchase a new battery for the non'working one and when I arrived home I installed it and turned on the main light, still won't turn on, I tried the LED's, they work. I figured maybe the new battery needs a good charge so I plugged the charger in and charged the light for 12 hours, still no main light.

I guess the new battery is defective, so now I will return it and exchange it for another one.
