The "blend door" directs air from the AC core and Heater core. It is regulated by an electronic actuator or if manual control with a wire from the lever to the door.. Either the actuator is bad or the blend door is broken which frequently happens. The rest for the system - fresh/recirculated air, foot/dash/defroster, are vacuum controlled. You have to pull of the dashboard to access it. Check out this guy's photos: http://tinyurl.com/nce4jl9

Two possible causes, Blocked heater core, or the inner door in the heater plenum is not closing to change where the blown air from the fan is going.

With the engine warm and running, BE CAREFUL, there should be two 5/8 or similar hoses going to the fire wall at the back of the engine. Touch both hoses and see if both are Hot to the touch. If both are warm then you have hot coolant going through the heater core which is good. If one is hot and the other is cool or cooler, then you don't have water circulating through the heater core.
Look for a valve assembly on one of the two hoses. Not sure if Ford uses a hot water valve for the heat anymore or not. If there is a valve touch the heater hose on both sides of the valve. Both sides should be the same temp Hot is valve is open. If one side is hot and the other cool you have no circulation. Needs to be fixed.

Most modern heater plenum doors are now electronic. Go over the fuse panel and look for a blown fuse for heat ac. Check them all. Not sure what it will be labeled. If all fuses check out, look under the dash and see if there are any wires and plugs dangling from any where near the heater plenum. If there are try to plug them back in.

The only other thing you can try is if the plenum doors are vacuum actuated. With the care running, and the heater set to heat but the fan off or as low as possible, get under the dash and listen for a hissing sound which would be a vacuum leak. fix the leak if you have one.

Good luck.

Some vehicles have a DCCV that controls flow of coolant to one side and the other. Don't know if yours does or not. And you won't hear an electric blend door motor very easily. don-ohio

I have a 2003 Ford F-150 FX4 5.4 and the AC only blows out of the defrost and help

Dustin, Sound like vacuum loss to position switch. Defrost is the default position when vacuum is lost in vent control system. Check any and all vacuum lines and connections under hood first, especially any that run through firewall. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

I have no heat in my 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer. When

The cable that pulls the cool/heat switch on the a/c gets weak and it doesnt allow the dial to switch over to heat. You can see that cable and the way its supposed to work on the right side of the gas pedal over it. I usually just use my foot to push that switch over to heat and reach with and pull on it with my right hand to cool.

Check the operation of the temperature control door. It is located in the center of the dash behind the radio. Look up between the gas pedal and heater case. It is white in color Move the temp knob while watching the actuator. If it is clicking it is bad. Good luck.

Is the blower blowing? if not could be a blown fuse or bad blower. If the blower is working make sure your coolant level is full, If both of theese things check out , you may have a vacume line loose somewhere that controls the duct witch controls it to change to defrost ,vent or hot to cold.

Driver's side air blowing warm, won't change

Sounds like there is a crack in the vent that leads to the drivers side, and hot air from the engine is leaking through.

No heat - when temperature selector knob is turned it stays cold

There shouldn't be anything down near the transmission that would affect your heat output. What I'm thinking is there is a possibility that the heater controls on the dash are malfunctioning, and when you select heat, for whatever reason the system isn't getting the signal to go warm. Would you be able to pull a heater control panel out of a salvage yard? If so, it shouldn't cost more than $10-12 and might be a worthwhile investment. If your controls are not sending the signal to have the air go warm, it'll continue to blow cool/cold.

You might also call a shop and see if they have the capability to scan the car for chassis failure codes, similar to what they do for the engine computer when you get a check-engine light - my Audi has this capability and I've seen it on other cars as well.
