You can download the Asus camera driver (please make sure that it is match with your Asus laptop model) and install it because it may trigger the laptop to look for the camera. Probably the camera is failing, but it is very rare.
Hello, To use the web camera of your Asus A53U
laptop, you have to install the driver first. This drive will help you to enable
your web camera. You can download the web camera driver here: http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=3&m=A53U

This is a well known problem with Asus laptop. It seems that the generic camera driver in Windows 7 is not compatible with Asus' camera.
Solution: Download the updated driver from Asus support site. Search for your laptop model, and try every camera driver listed. There are usually 4 camera drivers listed/available. So, if the first did not work, try the next one.
Solution 2: Edit Windows Registry. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sunplus SPUVCb\VIDEOPROCAMP. Change VFlip value to 1.
Solution 3: If you're having problems in downloading your webcam driver, download and install ManyCam. This program is free and can flip and rotate your camera output. Also works with Gtalk, Skype, and other programs.
I am assuming that you have an XP operating system, in which case you may need to reload the drivers for the camera. Follow this link to the Asus web stie.....
Go to start and search for Asus virtual camera. right click asus virtual camera. go to properties. click the compatibility tab. and click the box that says run in 256 colors.
install your driver for webcam. check it into http://support.asus.com choose for your laptop ASUS A3H and choose your driver webcam download it install it restart it and you can see your webcam will be work. open your windows explorer and see that bottom line "USB Video"
