Question about Video Cameras

Replacement of zoom switch assembly

Message for CLIVEBEARMAN: I, too have problems with the camera zooming without touching the zoom switch. You mentioned purchasing the zoom button assembly. Precisely where does one purchase this item? I have searched Canon's site in vain. Does Canon have a detailed breakdown diagram of the camera if I elect to replace this switch myself? If I wish to have a technician do it for me, would you know of any local ones in the Kingston, NY area or Mid Hudson Valley? Thanks in advance! Robert Ruggiero

SOURCE: Canon Elura 60 zooms by itself

Listen, I know it's a couple of years after this post but, try this: Remove cassette, push to close, close camera as if to use it, hold firmly in left hand, open hand slap it with your right hand once or twice, (I'm not joking) it worked the two times I had this problem. Problems with the zoom? Almost same process, push firmly on zoom button (to un-zoom) try doing this as your tapping it. These are last ditch efforts on an aging camera, it really has been a good one. I've put this poor thing through years of abuse, and it's held up pretty well. Good luck, Jeff S.

You might have bad contact in zoom switch unit or a short in zoom switch. The switch assembly is replaced for the remedy.

SOURCE: Elura 60 Zoom Problem

Guys, so weird but on another site it offered this suggestion: banged the base of your camera against something hard and it will become unstuck. So bang the base of your camera against something hard and it will work again, at least it works like it did but not sure for how long. Good luck. I can't believe that worked. Give it a try. I didnt hit it too hard either.

I barely touch the surface of the zoom and it goes all the way in. when I try to zoom out it fights me, and it is almost like it has a mind of its own.

Sounds like the springs that are responsible for popping the zoom switch back to center are not where they are supposed to be. Easiest solution would be to open it up and look for obvious problems or buy a used zoom switch assembly online and switch it out. Don't know what model you have, so I don't know how hard it would be to do or how much it would cost, sorry.

Canon HF100 zoom by itself, without touching the zoom button

you have to whack it on the bottom this will fix the problem (seriously!) bang it down on a hard surface (not too hard!!!) and then see if its fixed. do it a couple of times and it should work fine.

Hi,
This problem is related to the malfunctioning of zoom motor, Two possibilities are there,
1- If company provides technical help on component leve in your regionl then zoom motor may replace.
2- If component level support is not available then LENS ASSEMBLY must be replaced.
Contact your nearest fuji service centre or contact any expert nearby for the specific part replacement.
    Thanks for using fixya.

While zooming in-out camera gives error message means lens mechanism is either defective or lens drive motor is bad. In both cases, lens assembly will be replaced.

Zoom problem

I have the same problem. I hoped it was down to the zoom button on the top of the camera. I dismantled it and eventually got to the button but couldn't find anything loose/damaged or needing cleaned.

Did you ever find a solution?
