Question about Televison & Video
I have unplugged the dvr. I have tried what little I know about this remote but can't get it to work.
How long have have you had the remote and is this the first time this has happened and when was the last time you changed the batteries?

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

l. Push the "Menu button"
2. Push the "Menu button" again
3. Scroll to "Setup" and push "OK"
4. Scroll to "Guide setup" and push "OK"
5. Scroll to"No Auto Tune"
6. Click on arrow next to "No Auto Tune". This will change it to "Auto Tune".
7. Now exit, or just punch in any channel number.
You should now be able to go directly to a channel without entering zeros.

SOURCE: remote will not work
Use your box and go into Menu then to Setup then Select, next Syst Setup go to Reset then go to Reset defaults use the mute select buttons at same time after double flash press 961 then go back and press mute select after the double flash press 00001 and presto the remote worked again!
Yeah I didn't have to reset everything.
Read all your screens first before just calling DirectTV!

Check with your provider to ensure that you are in expanded services, or limited. Because being on limited services the box will lock you out of those channels. If you are in billing for those services and you checked the batteries on your remote and they are good and you get a solid red blink when you change channels not a double blink (indicating that your batteries are dying), Then try power cycling your DVR by, removing the power supply and waiting 3sec then plug it back in. Your box should shut off, turn itself back on, then go into the load screen, then, once the load screen display shows on your tv and on box display, wait for your box to completely load (don't touch nothing until the correct time shows up, meaning that it has completed the load process) Once the process is complete turn box back on and you should have you guide back up and (No Data) on your program schedule(Don't Worry!!) it will populate, with 15-20 mins.
Now try to ch. up and down and see if that fixed the problem. also make sure nothing is blocking the sensor. If all else fails and you changed the battery, called your cable provider and request a box swap, (be sure to watch all your recorded shows because they go bye, bye with the cable guy!)

you are using a universal do not expect it to even if it programs to
have all the functions you need or want or had with the original remote.
Universal remotes are far from UNIVERSAL.
best argument for an original remote is even if it programs it will
just not have all the features needed or wanted that the original had.
Hope this clears things up a little.
