Probably the images are not lost and do not need to be "recovered". Sounds like something happened to interfere with the operation of the program that knows how to display those images. Perhaps some other software was installed that messed up the program in question, or messed up the "file associations" (the thing that tells the computer that a particular program is used to work with a particular kind of file). I would try reinstalling whatever software program you had been using to view the images in question, i.e. before this problem occurred, when you used to open one of the photos, what program was it that appeared with the photo? That's the program I would reinstall.

Understandable. How about this: Right-click on one of the image files that is having the problem and look for option "Open with" and see if Photofunstudio is one of the choices. If so, select it, if not, try "Choose Default Program" and then look for Photofunstudio. You may have to browse or click Other Programs to locate Photofunstudio. You may also find that you can select some other program to open your files, which would demonstrate that the files are indeed intact and just the software to view the files is messed up. Also please note, in my original response, I never said Uninstall, only reinstall, i.e. install again over top of what's already there. I do understand your hesitation. You are right not to do anything that would delete the folders containing your image files.

While in Photofunstudio 8.1 some of my images added recetly display ok. Others have Error in the tile where the picture thumbnail should displayj. Other tile on the same screen display pictures ok. When Ieither right or left click on a tile saying Error it dsplays below the tile the image number and "file type still picture' I just don't know where to go from here.

The only thing I could find was: THAT suggests that you should attempt to determine if the image files still exist in the same locations (Windows folders) outside of Photofunstudio. If they have been moved, perhaps they can be imported from their new location. If they are gone, where have they gone and why and do you have backups? Unfortunately, it is usually a hard-learned lesson to learn to make backups. I hope that nothing has happened to your PC recently to effect the integrity of the file system (you would probably be seeing other problems as well). Is there any chance that some automated (or manual) "cleanup" software moved, deleted (or even compressed) some folders containing your picture files? If I were you, I would try to determine which Windows folders were being used to store your files, and then use Windows Explorer (not Photofunstudio) to see if those files still exist, or find out where they have moved to. You may find that all of the files that now have an error were stored in the same folder and that folder was moved or deleted. If your files have been deleted or if the file system has been corrupted, this is most likely going to come down to what kind of backups you have available. Let's hope maybe your files have just been moved. What version of Windows do you have? Unfortunately Windows' file Search facility is terrible in the last couple releases, but you may be able to use it to find your files.

Sounds like some incompatibility issue between the images and the program which you have chosen to open these images have caused the problem. I also would recommend to either use the right software or re-installing the software you are using to open the files.

Another solution could be to recover the images using a recovery software. You can go for

Is this happening in a cd or dvd? or on a drive? if it is a cd/dvd wrongly written data is the reason, you will see the file names etc and when you open it you get the error message. you have to rewrite if you have the original files. even if you use a data recovery software like iso buster, it will go through the motions of recovery, raising false hopes with the long time it takes and then you still have these empty files. you can try isobuster with the drives, you may recover- no guarantees. that error may have happened during partitioning? easeus may help.

SOURCE: unidentified images

I have the same problem with my Canon Powershot SX110IS. images dissapear with the notation "unidentified image". I brought my camera in to a local camera shop, and they were able to save the lost images. They told me I had an inexpensive, low quality memory card that is causing this problem. I upgraded to a high quality one and haven't had the problem since.

SOURCE: Problem downloading image

One of the images did not finish writing to the card properly (usually in the last 4 or 5 images, or the last video)
Try selecting all but the last 10 images and chose import selected. This should work. Then delete those from the card.
This bit is important
Put the card back in the camera (if it's in a usb reader) if not, disconnect the camera and put it into playback mode. View the remaining 10 images/video.
Try re importing and it should work fine! I've had this problem since ilife '09 and this method always fixes it. It seems to happen when the cards get full. Try not to completely fill a memory card and you should not get the problem.

SOURCE: Is it possible to recover my pictures?

I have had success with this... Download the program

You have to use a card reader either on your computer or an external USB card reader. Put the card in the card reader, open the recovery program, then select the drive where files are deleted, then press "Start" and wait for it to do it's magic.

An 'error' message kept on appearing when scrolling through images. The next day all the images were deleted.

If you are using a memory card, take no more pics until you've recovered the photos, take the card out of the camera. This is to reduce the chance of you overwriting some of your "lost" photos. There are many good freeware photo recovery software options that are available to help you recover your photos. This blog article reviews and outlines several of the better ones. AFTER you've recovered your photos, format your card IN YOUR CAMERA to prevent this from happening again.

You think you can try photo recovery software to see if you can rescue the lost photos or movies, here are some you may rely on. Both programs can also recover videos and music.

Mac Photo Recovery Software (for Mac OS X)

Be careful: Before your pictures and videos are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the memory card in case the original files(your pictures) are overwritten.

Cannot View Uploaded File

try opening the photos with any other viewing software you have - paint, windows picture and fax viewer to name but 2. If you get the same results then the files are probably corrupt, and the probability is that your memory card could be causing the problem, try another card and see if pictures you take can be viewed. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the camera and the olympus software, it just might help. If this doesn't work please post again and we could give you some info on software for recovering corrupt and deleted files. Hope this helps :)
