The DVD Player should have a red, white and yellow output socket at the back. these are the audio and video (yellow) conenctions. Connect these to your TV sockets using an AV cable with the same colours. On your TV, select AV from your list of devices or inputs and you should be good to go. Make sure power is applied to the DVD Player when you do this otherwise the TV won't recognise the connection as being there.

Start playing a DVD, then hit the input button on your TV rermote - usually the inputs correspond with how the DVD is plugged in (hdmi, rca plugs, coax, etc.) - otherwise, just try each input option until your DVD is playing on screen - you will need to select the proper input each time you use the DVD player and switch back to the original setting to watch TV.

Hello, It sounds like when you pressed the remote you inadvertently changed the scan on the ctv. This can cause the ctv ( colour tv ) to change from say ntsc to pal or similar. Even a reset button wouldnt help as it sounds like it is within the setup menu. You could try, as I have done this myself with a similar problem, disconnecting your dvd and putting it aside. Then, pressing the remote when in tv mode and watch for any change in screen flicker etc. If you have the original remote for ctv use that. If as you say, the tv goes to standby mode, you may have damaged the power supply, as the power supply will shut down to standby at any sign of a short.

I pressed " setup" on

unplug the power from the TV and the DVD. Plug them back in and try. There is nothing in the tv menu that would knock out your picture, but the dvd player menu has a couple things that would. If unplug doesn't work, tell us what brand dvd player you have.

Try pressing the HDMI button on the remote control to toggle the display output to something that your television will recognize. You can also try The progressive button and see if that helps. I am assuming you model is the XD-E500 model.
