I have only a speaker to a jvc sp-pwm505 surround sound system. But am looking to power it using something else. Is this possible?

Looking for an alternative way to power a speaker from this jvc surround sound system using a different receiver / tv

Yes, all speakers operate on the same principle. Though depending on the resistance of the speaker, usually 4 or 8 ohms, it may place too large a load on the source driver. Try it and see.

  • If your looking for the s pin DIN cable from the sub you can get that anywhere. The 8 pin DIN is a standard cord the same across the board. Here are a couple to choose from.

I have a JVC DVD player that doesnt come with surround sound but i have surround sound speakers is there something I can buy so that I am able to use the speakers

If you have surround speakers with a surround system, then connect the Player to the surround system using for example RCA cables (White and Red).

If you have speakers only, connecting many speakers to a non-surround system won't give you surround.
In surround systems the sound is controlled, elaborated and distributed through the speakers by a circuit.

If you wnt surround sound the alternatives are :

  1. Connecting a surround system (eg.Home theater, receiver) to the player (amp+speakers)
  2. Upgrading the DVD to one with surround.
Let me know if you need more help.

bye.

SP-PWM505 subwoofer does not stay on

Well i had exactly the same problem, my sub turned off right away when i turned the whole thing on. Well i opened the subwoofer and was trying to find out something unusual, i took out, i believe, internal amp, well, whatever that thing is, under the lid. Which one is screwed with 6 copper screws, so you unscrew those screws, lift that lid and that whole board comes out. On that board i find something like burn around one of the parts.

you can see it in the pick, the part q2902, then i contacted JVC. At the beginning they said i need to take the whole thing to service center and so on. But later i made them to tell me what kind of part that is, so here :http://www.jvcservice.com/store/ProductDetail.asp?Part=KTC3199/GL/-T
bought soldering gun in home depot for $15, returned after i was done. And that is it, just have to replace it, but total cost only $12 ($5 part +$7 shipping)

The click will be a relay to protect the main amp overloading. In many ways you are driving the amp to hard, unless there is a fault on the main amp which means it can't take the full load that it should handle. One cause of this for example would be a speaker that is either the wrong ohms, or of a lower wattage than what the amp can put out. Or in some cases a faulty speaker, or if the wiring is not good shorts when the speaker shakes when a very loud noise comes from it.
Things to check:
1 That no speaker is lower ohms than the amp.
2 That no speaker is lower in watts (RMS) than the amps total output for that channel it is on. Remember not all surround amps have the same volume on each channel.
It is of course possible to use smaller wattage speakers. But if you have an amp that can output say 200w. Connecting an 80w speaker to it would really limit the amount the volume control could be raised to.
3 Each speaker is working right. Plus all connections are neat with NO possibility of shorting.

If all of these are good then you have a fault on the main power amp. Probably one or more of the output device(s)
