Many times there will be a few screws to remove the recoil assembly. Once that is off looking at the bottom side should indicate with arrows, etc the direction the assembly turn and possibly how to wind the cord. Get a new cord or reuse old one if long enough. Reassemble same way you took it apart in reverse.

generally you need to replace the spring mechanism. contact the manufacture for parts/cost. Most local shops don't carry parts to repair vacuums, unless it's a new model, most vacuums are designed to work until they don't then you replace. unless you spend more than 400-500 bucks on it that is.

Gentlemen, I have a Mighty lite Trimmer of which the cord does not recoil. It appeares that the heavy torsion spring bends when cord is pulled and cord stays out instead of recoiling. Where can I get...

I have the same problem....the cord remains I pulled it apart and discovered that the recoil wheel that the cord rewinds onto does not stay where it is supposed to and rides upward catching on the fixings that hold it in place. When i pressed it down the cord retratcts immediatley. Only problem is it does not stay there. It was only used three times.

It has everything to do with being a cheap product. I should have paid a little more and bought a better product. Will not buy homelite again.
