Hi,
the HDMI connector on your cam is only an output, not an input !

Testimonial: "There are two HDMI connectors on the cam....the left one is HDMI In and the right one is HDMI Out."

so it must be an option in your menu, may be the resolution of your external source is too hight for the input of your cam ! check both of them and make sure your input supports the resolution and frequency of your source ! 'iff source is 1080p 60i 75Hz and your input only support 720p, or 1080p 30i 60 Hz, it won't work !

SOURCE: Connecting my Sony Camcorder CCD-TRV 108 to my computer

To do this you will need a firewire cable 4 to 6 pin, here a link:
http://www.amazon.com/Belkin®-Firewire-Cable-4-Pin-6-Pin/dp/B0016W3L3O/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=office-products&qid=1226166429&sr=8-3

you'll plug the 4 pin connector, that's the smaller one, into the DV port on the camera, then you'll plug the 6 pin into the computer's firewire port.
now open WMM, iMovie, Adobe Premire, whatever you are editing with:
imove: got to capture> video from camera, in the new one there should be a little button with a camera, just click that
WMM: Click record> from camera, then put your camera in playback mode, and hit record on WMM, start playing and BAM. same prcess for recording applies to pretty much all of them.

SOURCE: Hi i have a Sony hdr CX550 handycam camcorder

Most mics will work if the plug fits the socket on camera and it fits on the hot shoe okay, I never use Sony mics on my Sony camera, you end up paying for the name, not the item.

SOURCE: we have sony handycam DCR

The USB streaming driver for theCamcorder is not available for Windows 7 OS from Sony at this point. Hence it is not possible totransfer videos using USB interface. You may use i.LINK or A/V interface totransfer videos from the Camcorder to the Computer which is running on Windows 7 Operating System. Please follow the steps to transfer video to a computerusing an i.LINK connection (IEEE 1394).
IMPORTANT: Video capture software and a compatible video capture card mustbe installed on the computer. Depending on the computer manufacturer, variousvideo capture cards and software (Adobe Premiere, Roxio Video Wave, MicrosoftWindows Movie Maker, etc.) may be available or already installed on yourcomputer. If necessary, contact the manufacturer of your computer for furtherinformation.

NOTE: Many Sony VAIO computers are bundled with Sony DVgate Motion or DVgatePlus software for video capturing. Some VAIO computers also include Click ToDVD software that will allow video capture to the computer hard drive ordirectly to a DVD.

  1. Connect an i.LINK cable (also known as IEEE 1394) to the i.LINK port on the digital camcorder.
i.LINKCable.

i.LINKport.
rsshajan_27.jpg
  1. Connect the other end of the i.LINK cable to the computer.
NOTE: The computer i.LINK ports and capture cardsmay have either 4-pin or 6-pin connections. Sony digital camcorders use i.LINKports with 4 pins. If your computer only has a 6-pin i.LINK port, then it willbe necessary to use a 4-pin to 6-pin i.LINK cable.
  1. Turn on the digital camcorder by moving the POWER switch to the VTR position.
  2. Cue the camcorder tape to the beginning of the video footage.
  3. Turn on the computer.
  4. Start the video capture software on the computer.
  5. Begin playing the recorded video in the camcorder.
  6. Begin importing the video with the capture software.
It should now be possible to copy the video usingthe video capture software if the computer hardware and software are configuredcorrectly.

Why when I use the inbuilt projector of the Sony Camcorder HDR-PJ240E with an external device, the projected screen becomes plain blue after a few minutes?

This maybe due to the external device not receiving signal to keep the display on the screen or a cable that isn't quite right. Many HD cables can cause this issue due to a security feature built into it to prevent streaming copies which helps prevent piracy. If you are using say an HDMI cable, try a different one.

How to project an image from an external device from a Sony Camcorder HDR-PJ240E?

Simple solution. You connected an output to an output. The Camcorder 'outputs' image from it so you need to plug it into an input on your TV. You will then see image from the camcorder on your tv.

It is brand new and the store has exchanged it for another Camcorder and it is still the same problem

I Will continue adding my two cents to all of these posts :)
Another thing to try I haven't mentioned would be to play a movie that you know is PAL. Since the camera is PAL.

Color info and reference freq. is different. In fact unless you remove region codes all together use a converter box there is no way to play a movie that is NTSC. It wouldn't even read out on your LCD screen in the spot where it is suppose to be.

you should try shutting down your laptop, plugging in the interface cable for the projector and then powering on the laptop. This solution works with some projectors and all HDMI computer to External video source connections. (I say all because I have yet to find a combination that this didn't work on for HDMI)

No video/display on TV when using sony str dh 500

If your set up is HDR-AVR and TV all you need to do is go HDMI out from HDR to HDMI in(Sat.) of AVR and monitor out HDMI (or composite video) to TV. and select the Sat. input on the AVR. The sound is only comming from the HDR in this case and the composite video or HD video is being switched out to the TV when you select Sat. on your AVR
