This sounds like a corruption issue with the install of Messenger. Uninstall it and re-install it.

Keyboard shortcuts

Messenger has 5 icons at the bottom of the screen. From left to right,
Recents, which is conversations you have had.
Calls, which is a list of people who have a device you can call,
Groups, which enables you to select a number of friends to message.
People, which is your Contacts directory.
Settings, which allows you to set up your phone number, and various options including Help.

Messenger is part of Facebook, so make not play ball with iPad settings.

Reading ebooks is not the only activity you can enjoy with the Pandigital Novel.
The multi-functional device will also allow you to listen to music, watch videos and browse through your favorite images.
The Pandigital has a speaker located in the back of the device and an earphone jack to accommodate your listening needs.
To get started, you will need to either download media from a computer or purchase ebooks from Barnes & Noble online.
Downloading Media

Click on the computer's desktop "Start" menu.

Choose the "My Computer" or "Computer" folder in the desktop Start menu.
Double-click to open the "PD_Novel" drive in the My Computer/Computer folder.
Inside the drive there are four separate folders "eBooks," "Photos," "Music" and "Videos."
Drag compatible media files stored on the computer to the compatible folder inside the "PD_Novel" drive with your mouse.
For example, drag audio files to the "Music" folder.
The Pandigital is compatible with text formatted as ePub and PDF, audio files formatted as MP3, AAC, WAV and OGG, video files formatted as MPEG-4 and images formatted as JPEG, BMP, PNG and GIF.
Disconnect the Pandigital Novel from the USB cable.
Playing Media
Press and hold the "Power" button, located on the left side of the device until the boot up message appears on the screen.
Select a media option in the "Application Quick Launch Bar" at the bottom of the screen: Reader, Music, Videos or Photos.
Tap the desired song, video or image and tap "Play" or "View."
Tap the "Pause/Play" and "Previous/Next" options to control the file or go to the next listed file.
Setting Up Wi-Fi
Turn the "Wi-Fi" button, located on the top of the device, to the "On" position.
The Pandigital Novel will automatically scan for local Wi-Fi Networks.
Tap the desired network from the list of found networks.
Enter the network password, if prompted. Then tap "Connect." When connected, tap "Next" to continue.
Purchashing eBooks
Go to Barnes & Noble's website on your computer and select the option to create an account. Enter your full name, email address, debit or credit card information and select a user name and password when prompted.

Tap to go back to the home screen.
Select "Bookstore" from the home screen.
The Barnes & Noble bookstore will open in the Pandigital Novel screen.
Search the website for ebooks to purchase.
Tap on the book cover and select either "Buy Now" or "Get Free Sample."
Tap "Yes" to download the media cover to "My Library" when prompted.
Go back to "My Library" on the home screen and tap on the media cover.

UNABLE TO READ OLD MESSAGES STORED IN THE SMARTPHONE IN THE PLAYBOOK.

On my playbook when I scroll down the list of email messages and get to a certain point it just downloads more older messages from the phone. If this isn't happening on your playbook, then you should try rebridging the devices. Go to the bluetooth connections screens on both the phone and the playbook and delete the other device from the device list. Then go to the BB bridge app and reconnect them. Hopefully that works.
