Question about Singer 3270 Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

Where to get a new handwheel/handwheel switch for a Singer 3270C sewing machine?

As I was winding a bobbin using my Singer 3270c machine, a piece of the plastic inside the handwheel broke off and flew into the air. Now the switch inside the handwheel that I use to flip between winding the bobbin and sewing is broken. Where can I get a new one? I Called Singer and finally got a person after waiting 1 hour and 40 minutes. The rep gave me the numbers to 2 warranty centers, but neither center had the part.

They may not have it but they should be able to order it. How old is the machine? If it is too old, they may not support it any more

Thanks! It's about 15 years old. It's the cap that's broken.

  • Laura W Nov 25, 2014

Sorry...hit post too soon. The part # on the clutch plate cap is 357367. The parts I see online, though, have a suffix of "-901". Will that work?

check with these 2 websites for the part ,,

sewingpartsonline.com or sewvacdoctor.com

it's possible the bobbin case could be a problem, I have 2 sewing machine & if one of them had a broken bobbin case I would replace it

have you tried a new needle

also check the thread take up lever, if the thread comes off of it, that can jam up the machine as well, I've had that happen before

also keep under the needle plate area clean of lint or loose threads & also the bobbin area

SOURCE: I need to know what

I don't know the part number, but I do know where you can buy one. Go to http://thesewingcenter.com/parts-c-626_715_963_1206.html. The price is 12.95. The part number on the page may well be the retailer's own part number and not that of Singer's, though.

My Singer Slant-o-Matic 500a sewing machine will not wind a bobbin. The winding pin barely started to turn, then no motion. Also, the wheel doesn't seem to tighten.

Your machine is an older mechanical machine, so have you cleaned and oiled it recently? Usually, older machines' oil will gunk up over time and stop things from moving like they should. Use only Fresh, good quality sewing machine oil. Do NOT oil belts, cams, rubber, or plastic parts. Slowly rotate the handwheel and place a couple drops of oil every place where metal rubs metal. To speed up the process, direct hot air from a handheld hairdryer into the internal metal parts.

I only want to know if the wheel must be loosened to wind the bobbin and if so with direction, to the front or backwards and press and turn or pull and turn.thanks

Which make and model sewing machine do you have?

None of my sewing machines need the wheel to be loosened for bobbin winding. The Singer Touch & Sew bobbins are filled in place. Use the handwheel to get the needle into the highest position (just turn the wheel). Wrap the top thread around the screw that holds the presser foot; open the slide plate part way and press the bobbin wind button. Hold the top thread and then begin winding by stepping on the foot pedal.. The thread should break after a few winds.

The Kenmore and the Husqvarna Vikings both get wound at the top. Place bobbin on winding pin. With the needle up and metal presser foot in place thread the top thread up to the bobbin (through the guides) and up through the hole in the bobbin. Slide the bobbin winding switch over towards the bobbin. Hold the thread tightly and begin winding (step on the foot control). After a few winds are on the bobbin, cut the thread that you were holding flush with the top of the bobbin. Continue winding the bobbin. (The newest Viking in the group has a computer screen; on that one, do not press OK until done winding the bobbin.)

However, if the handwheel is not turning and the needle is down, first find out why it isn't turning properly. This could indicate a tangle of thread somewhere in the system. (The older Husqvarna sewing machine in my home has a non-functional handwheel. The machine will still sew but you have to use the needle up/down switch that forces the needle to stop in the up position before you run out of bobbin.)

Please add a comment with the specifics of your sewing machine and I'll be glad to add additional information.

I hope this helps.

Singer 3270c stops sewing in the middle of sewing and doesn't start up for a while

How is your power cord? Has it been stored wound tightly? Take it in for service because it may overheat and destroy the machine. I hope that it is under warranty or that it won't cost you anything to diagnose it, but something is very wrong.

I bought a 3270C Singer sewing machine but it did not have the manual. I would like to know where I can find it. At this moment, I cannot use it becuase I'm having problems with the tension of the thread...

I looked at www.singerco.com and they want $15 for a hard copy(they say use the 3343 manual, must be the same thing) but you can go to www.sewingmanuals.com and download one right away for $10 and always have a copy on your computer, plus print it out yourself. Remember they say Singer 3343, and that site use paypal, so it is safe. Good luck, you really do need the manual for maintenance and all.
