This is a GE 30" Free-Standing Gas Range with automatic electronic ignition. The only way to stop the oven from automatically turning ON is to unplug it. When the oven is plugged back in, the oven ignites (with the knob turned OFF) and runs for 30 to 60 secs then turns OFF. After that, the oven turns ON every 20 mins to 45 mins (maybe a longer time period as there is no set interval), the oven then burns for about 30 secs and then turns OFF. Turning the oven control knob makes no difference. There are no obvious switches or setting that seem to control an automatic igniting of the oven. Any suggestions?

Seems to me you have a defective control panel board.. Ovens should never do this. Time for the Serviceman right away, this could be dangerous if you are not home.

could be a bad thermostat but it sounds most likely like a loose wire connection somewhere. if the coil comes on and doesnt quite glow as bright as it should, the glow coil needs replacing.

KENMORE GAS STOVE OVEN , how to check if power is coming to the ignitor

The oven burner igniter
commonly known as the hot surface igniter is used in modern gas oven burners to open the gas valve and to ignite the gas. As the igniter draws electric current it will heat to a high temperature and glow, as well as cause the bi-metal in the oven safety valve to warp and open the valve releasing the gas to be ignited. This sequence normally takes about a minute. Igniters come in both flat and round styles and are very fragile. If the burner does not light then you should check the igniter first. If the igniter does not glow at all, then check for power to the circuit. This is a live voltage check and should be performed by a qualified person. If power is present then the igniter may be open circuit and can be checked for continuity with a multi-meter. If the igniter is glowing, but the burner is not lighting, the igniter may be weak and still be at fault because it requires a certain amount of current draw to open the valve. This check requires the use of an amp meter and should be performed by a qualified person. If the igniter is defective then it must be replaced.

Oven will not light. it is a frigidaire model #

When the bake igniter becomes weak or burns out, your oven will not bake. The bake igniter is usually mounted on the oven burner. It's about 1 inch by 4-8 inches (depending on the model), and comes in round or flat styles. If you don't see the igniter glow at all, it's probably burned out. Replace the igniter if found defective. Note: one of the exceptions could be that your oven is set to automatic mode instead of manual. If this is the case, set your oven to manual mode and check again.

If the bake igniter glows red and not bright yellow or white, it is probably because it is too weak. When this happens, the safety valve will not let the gas out into the oven burner. A weak igniter must be replaced.

A faulty igniter is probably the most common cause, however there are others:

  1. Defective thermostat
  2. Defective selector switch
  3. Defective gas safety valve
  4. Defective gas valve coils

Gas oven igniter glows, but oven does not turn on.

That is correct. You will have to check if the valve needs replacement or if there is power being sent to the solenoid for the valve. There must be just a connection problem.

Glow coil glows but wo'nt ignite burner. can

if you have used the self clean function you may have burned up the ignitor they are rated for about 1000 deg for just about a minute but when you clean it stays around 800-900 deg for about an hour or so. You may just need to replace the ceramic ignitor. as for the gas, the valve will only stay open for a few seconds, if the oven doesnt recognize a flame the gas valve will close.

The oven gas does not come on? Top and Broiler does. Oven igniter does glow

If your oven won't bake, check these:

Bake igniter
Other causes
Bake igniter Usually when an oven won't bake, it's because the bake igniter is weak or burned out. The igniter is a small, round or rectangular device, that's about 1 inch by 4 to 8 inches. It's near the burner itself.

The burner is the tube-type device the gas flows through before it's ignited. It has many small holes on the sides to let the gas, when ignited, form a long, low flame. If the igniter is weak, if it glows red but doesn't get hot enough, or if it's burned out, the gas doesn't flow to the burner and the burner won't ignite. If this is the problem, you may need to replace either the igniter or the gas safety valve. Usually the igniter is to blame.

Other causes Other reasons that your oven may not bake are:

  • The clock settings are incorrect (if you have timed baking or a self-cleaning oven).

  • The thermostat is defective.

  • The safety valve that prevents accidental gas flow is defective.

  • The selector switch is defective.

Broiler works, as do burners. The oven will not come on. Gas whirlpool range 2003 year. Model SF367LEKB

jdelvecchio5Does the igniter (glow bar) come on whenever the bake function is selected.?

If the glow bar does not come on the safety valve will not open - no bake burner. check the electrical harness first then Try changing the igniter (glow bar first) before changing the safety valve/regulator.

The oven doesn't work ,the ignator doesn't light up. no gas coming

The technical jargon is,.....:
In order for your gas oven to work this is what has to happen: 1. when you turn on the oven, the range sends 120 volts to the glow bar igniter. 2. as the igniter heats up (and starts to glow) it starts using more electricity. 3. when the electric use reaches a set amount (say 3.2 amps) the range knows the glow bar igniter is hot enough to ignite the gas, so it then releases gas through the gas safety valve. 4. when the thermostat tells the oven controller that the temperature has been reached, the control cuts power to the igniter, cutting the amp draw down, causing the safety gas valve to close. 5. process repeats to hold oven temp until you turn off oven.

So,..........the solution is:
most likely your oven igniter burnt out. Find your model number, usually on the range frame just behind the lower drawer or broiler drawer (depending on if it is a self clean gas range or not) and order the correct igniter and replace it.
