Depends on the Generator size. It may well be that it has a suggested 3kva max output. Generally a little overrated. Your 3Kw kettle might be over 3Kw input.

These things mean the generator safety cutout operates just below 3Kva. The generator would be fine with a short time 3KVA output only. better for it to cut out than the cook!

Trick would be to have a 2kw kettle or a 4kva genny

SOURCE: kettle lights but doesn't boil

Most likely the thermo fuse is blown.

You have to take the kettle apart and see the spec for the thermo fuse. You can get these at most any electronics parts supplier for appliances.

To change the thermo fuse you will need the proper crimp type connectors and the crimp tool. This is not able to be soldered. It runs too hot, and soldering in a circuit close to a heating element is not able to be used.

Before changing the thermo fuse, you can test it with an ohm meter. It should typicaly read about 0.1 to 0.2 ohms. The heating element resistance should typicaly read about 8 to 12 ohms.

If the heating element reads below 6 to 7 ohms on a well calibrated ohm meter, or above 15 ohms, it is defective.

If the thermo fuse is blown, the kettle may have been left running when boiled out and over heated, or there is a short in the heating element.

If you feel that you are not comfortable to do this type of repair, it would be best to give the kettle out to an appliance service centre to have it serviced.

When you change the thermo fuse, and if it blows again the heating element is probably damaged. It must be replaced if possible, or if worth the cost.

On the other hand, if the kettle is more than a few years old and you don't want to go to all this trouble, you may want to consider to simply get a new one.

SOURCE: When filled with water & put on to boil it

I think you would only solve this problem by cleaning the thermostat contacts, or replacing the thermostat which wouldn't be worthwhile as it's likely to be cheaper to buy a new kettle.
Besides this , just getting into the kettle needs special 3 tongue screwdriver and then a certain technique to open it up without damaging the plastic parts. Im'e afraid its a throw-away world now and its not good .

SOURCE: water kettle does not boil water

I had the exact same problem. The kettle would warm water but not boil. I bet you have hard water - try putting 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water mix and turning it on. I did this, fixed the problem!

Wont cut off when boiled

Is the kettle lid fully down? If not then the sensor won't get hot enough to activate the power cut off sequence. If all this is OK then consider junking the kettle for a new one. Obviously, if you are attached to kettle then take it to a reputable repairer. If the kettle is a fairly cheap one he should suggest replacing it.

Bulb in Ikon kettle no longer lights up

I had this problem recently; I think my kettle have accidentally been turned on empty. The kettle has a safety for that, described as follows in the manual:
"The kettle is fitted with a safety device, which protects against overheating should the appliance be operated with insufficient water. If this occurs the kettle will stop heating. Switch 'Off' at the power
point and allow kettle to cool before refilling. The safety device will automatically reset when the kettle has cooled down."

Then they go on to tell you that there is an additional thermal cut-out, and if that is tripped, you have to send it back to Breville for servicing. However, it might not be that bad-- it wasn't in my case.

The heating connector and control is made by Otter, here's information that I was able to find about it on their website (Otter A1 and CS7 control and connector-- I think the kettle actually uses a CS4 connector, but the thermal cut out isn't described on that data sheet):
"The A1 control integrates to 360┬░ cordless plug with element
dry boil protection. Two bimetals spring loaded against the
element surface make a fast response during dry boil. One
bimetal disconnects the live side of the electric circuit and the
other disconnects the neutral. A latch out function prevents
dry boil cycling. This automatically resets when the kettle or
jug is lifted from the cordless base."
http://www.ottercontrols.co.uk/support-downloads/domestic-data-sheets

So what does this mean to you? If you look at the bottom of the kettle jug, there is a circular indentation that slots into the base. There are two white plastic things which I believe are part of the "latch out" described above in Otter's documentation. If you see them sticking out, they may be stuck in position instead of resetting as they should. Use something like a pencil eraser to gently poke them so they unstick, then put the jug back on the base. That should cause them to retract, and at that point your kettle should work again.

What are good features to look for in an electric kettle?

One of the best feature of electric kettle is it should be cordless. One of the most advantageous benefits experienced by those choosing to switch from the traditional methods of boiling water to the more convenient cordless electric kettle comes in the form of optimized time savings, cutting the time it normally takes to boil water by as much as seventy five percent. So for the cordless electric kettle water level indicator is essential. It must be long lasting and more durable. You can get more information about it from the coolkettles.co.uk. so go with this my provided link.

The switch does not automatically turn off when the water boils. If left alone all the water will boil out.

The switch has to turn off when the water boils as the heat generated must cut off the switch. If this wont work the bimetal is not working and the switch is not responding.
You will need to replace the switch. Please contact the dealership for the spare.

Hi, i have a Bosch TDS2551GB steam generator iron. It needs descaling but I don't know how and there does not appear to be a descaling button. How do I proceed ?

Hi, Descaling is simply a process where the limestone that is deposited in any water cooking device is removed.
Have a look inside your electric kettle to see how much of a problem ypou have in your area.
If you have a serious problem & your kettle element is totally covered up with a whitish coating, I suggest you buy a can of commercial descaling agent.
If not, or iof you prefer home remedies, get a bottle of white vinegar.
Empty your kettle & pour a bit of vinegar onto the limestone. If it boils & foams, it is being dissolved. Replace the vinegar everytime it stops or slows down. Look at the results. You can speed it up by heating the kettle. Do not boil the kettle with vinegar. (Weak acid) Rather dilute it 50-50 I then boil. Or, just boi;l some water & throw it out. Then put the acid on. once you figuted out what process is suitable for getting rid of your areas's limestne, then applie your knowledge to your Bosh.
Just let the acid stand inside it overnight, or get more drastic if neccessary.

The power switch light on my kettle comes on but it wont boil

1. Check the continuity on the power switch
2. Check to see if any thermal cut-out is open circuit
3. Check to see if the element has gone open circuit.

Any open circuit indicates the part will require replacing. Given the cost of the kettle, if the element has gone open circuit it may be worth considering replacing the kettle itself.
