Mechanical failure : it's either the belt that drags the print head or the cogs powering the belt that are skipping due to wear.
It can be repaired, but unless you can find a local service that will do it on the cheap, you're better off buying a new one

SOURCE: Printer makes extremely loud clicking noise

http://printer.konicaminolta.com/support/current_printers/mc2430dl_sup.htm#Printer_Specific_Documentation The user guide should be helpful to you to pinpoint what is causing the noise. Sounds like the belt drive or gears may be having a problem. Let me know what happens. Tim

SOURCE: hp psc 2400 scanner motor stuck in repeating motion

Unfortunately, in this case HP's support site doesn't offer a lot of help. See here. or here.
This article will get you part way there if you decide to dig in and try to work on it yourself.
If you want to talk to the HP techs, see here.
If you're interested in reading a forum full of posts about the same issue, see here. and here. Read far enough and you'll see some solutions proposed, some of which may work in your situation.
Apparantly, if the scanner doesn't correctly read an encoder strip on the underside of the glass, which causes the motor to keep engaging even when the scanner bulb is fully retracted, and the belt starts slipping gears, causing the noise, etc.
And when the code isn't read, the alignment fails and the printer won't work. That's what I remember from the last time I looked into this, anyway.
Good luck with it...
If you don't feel comfortable yourself, perhaps some able and competent friend will be willing to have a look.
Otherwise, you'll have to get it serviced.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

SOURCE: loud clicking noise when turn on printer

I would check wherever possible for foreign objects in the printer. Failing that, a partial reset is available for your PSC 2410:

A partial reset can be done by:

1) Unplugging the power cord (you are already there!)
2) Press and hold the (#) key and (3) key while plugging the unit back in

My HP PSC 4500 printer makes a loud knocking noise when first turned on which goes off after a few seconds and printer woorks okay

OfficeJet Printers have a "spittoon" in which a rubber pad is used to wipe the bottoms of the cartridges to maintain a clean jet nozzle area. To find this, the unit will go to it's home position, "bump" that side where the spittoon resides, to confirm it's home position, then wipe the cartridges before its ready for use. In other words: "That's a normal noise for this model of printer". It will happen every time you power it up or wake it from hibernation mode with a print job.

Hp printer photosmart c 4795

I don't have a photosmart, but I do have an HP OfficeJet J4680 that clicks sometimes. Check to make sure the ink cartridges are installed correctly. That's what is sliding back and forth when you turn it on.
