I have a similar problem to Yvonne. I understand that you are not supposed to use bleach based products to clean a saniflo toilet. Can anyone recommend an alternative?
My problem is pretty mutch the same as a graham but I think it's a make up wipe that is causing the problem , so would recommend the same thing many thanks m heisleyMy problem is pretty mutch the same as a graham but I think it's a make up wipe that is causing the problem , so would recommend the same thing many thanks m heisley

I worked on a lot of Saniflo products, they do not recommend using any products that have bleach or chlorine. Make sure the flapper inside the side inlet where the bath drains, is not obstructed.
If the unit is making a loud noise then there could be an obstruction in the blade or impeller, you will have to pry open the lid using a flat head screwdriver and then remove the motor out of the casing, the blade is on top of the motor and the impeller is at the bottom of the motor.
Saniflo recommends using any cleaning products that does not contains bleach or chlorine such as liquid lysol, Mr. clean or simple green. Also Saniflo sells a descaler that is designed to clean the inside of pump casing.
Is recommended to use any cleaning product that does not contains bleach or chlorine. There are rubber components inside the pump casing which bleach/chlorine shortens out the life expectancy of these components. Liquid lysol, simple green or mr clean are ok to use.
1. Full of gunk and will get quieter if it gets cleaned out - two ways of doing this ..
a) Try the saniflo descaler / cleaner product http://www.sanifloproducts.co.uk/products/Saniflo-Products-Saniflo-Descaler.html
b) If you are comfortable with it, to clean:
1. Turn off the electricity to the unit (should be on a fused spur) 2.
Disconnect the pipes (inlet and discharge) - you may get a bit of
surplus water coming out so have some sponges and a bucket ready. 3. Disconnect the wiring and take the unit out 4. I clean my Saniflo's outside with warm bleach water .. - Wear rubber gloves to keep germs out of any cuts you may have / get on your hands - Put the elextrical cable in a taped up plastic food bag or similar to keep dry - undo the 'star screws' - Flip up the plastic retaining tabs with a flat blade screwdriver and gently ease the lid up.
- I put bleach and warm water in, leave it for a while (30 mins) and
then swish it around and empty out into an outside drain etc - If
you want to use an old toothbrush to get into the areas by the float
switch and under the motor it does help. I also used a hosepipe in the
past which did the trick. - Also pay attention to the inlet port and the actual pipes under your sink for gunk
put
it back together, aligning the seal and plastic clips should just pop
on (may need a firm push). Do up star screws and you are ready to
reconnect the pipes and electrics.
I use some tissue paper to check for any leaks around the pipes just to be sure!
2. The bearings in the motor for the pump may be going (i.e. have play in them) and be causing noise. This normally means a replacement unit
3. Something is in there that should not be! ... i.e. toy soldiers etc etc (see cleaning)
Turn off electricity to saniflo.Turn off water to toilet (normally an inline valve). Empty toilet bowl and cistern of water. Remove toilet, cistern. Disconnect inlet pipes to saniflo (careful as backed up water will flow out!).
Take out Saniflo (outside is normally good). Open up top with star driver and use a flat blade for the plastic retaining flaps.Be sure to wear rubber gloves to keep out germs from cuts etc on your hands.
Cover mains cables with plastic food bag and tape up. Use a solution of bleach / warm water, fill up the sanifo and leave for a while. Swish around and empty into a drain etc. I also use a hosepipe to make sure I get it really clean (esp under motor and float switch). Also check inlet pipe flappy bit and the actual pipes that connect to the saniflo
Most grocery stores sell "pumice stone" this is a solid bar about 1" x 1" x 6" long. It is literally lava rock cut to this dimension. You use this to scrub the stains off the porcelin. Have used one for years, never hurt the toilet.
The tried and true method is good ole' elbow grease. If your water has chemistry issues it's even more necessary to clean it more often. The water supplier can help you with your answers on water quality issues. If your on a private well you will probably need to install a treatment system. Get several opinions if you use salesmen. Personally I don't have much faith in there knowledge. Call your county health department to see if they have a program to test your water. Most states provide 1 free test annually. Good Luck!
