Fixya does not supply parts, try a local gas supplier for an idea of where to obtain one. Cheers

When I turn on the grill the gas flame does not go beyond about 1/3 of the way along the connector tube to the rear burner.

It could be a partially blocked gas jet or insufficient gas pressure is reaching the jet.

Clearly the pipes and valve should be checked if cleaning the jet doesn't provide a cure.
It is a good idea to compare the jet size and air bleed size with specifications. If it is set up for propane and being used with butane it will display the inefficiency you described.

There have been a few appliances designed for use with bottled gas that weren't intended to be used with a pressure regulator and lots of propane appliances that need a higher pressure than the standard fixed regulator can supply and an adjustable regulator should be used instead.

Weller Pyropen WPA2 extinguishes itself after a few minutes.

Gas (condensation really) may be freezing and constricting flow. Try warming the tip a bit with a hair dryer see if it goes longer.

Can i convert my cadac safari chef from hp to lp

Vinnie, first lets take a look at what HP gas is, as opposed to regular LP Gas.

HP Gas is a Propane / Butane mixture liquefied under normal ambient temperature and moderate pressures. It is a safe, clean burning, reliable, high calrofic value fuel. In addition to it use as a domestic fuel, it is also widely used in industries, where there is a requirement of low sulphur content fuel and fine temperature controls. HP Gas conforms to IS:4576-1999 specifications.

Converting your grill to HP Gas may be possible, but there would need to be some adjustments to the burner's venturi valve. As the air to gas mixture may be different. Also, you would need to check with your HP Gas Provider, to see if a different pressure regulator would be necessary.

Hope this helps you and Happy Grilling!!.

I have worked on gas products for many years and have converted many from lp to natural gas and from natural gas to lp. What you want to do i would never try.

High flame on Mabe Gas Stove

The gas supply pressure could be too high and it could be worth checking or if your supply isn't regulated, try fitting a regulator. Maybe the regulator is faulty if you have one.

From memory I think most domestic gas appliances need a supply pressure of 11 inches on a water manometer. Butane pressures can become quite high in warm weather (and drop to zero at freezing point).

Perhaps your new cooker is jetted for natural gas (methane). As that fuel gas has a lower calorific value than butane the jets would probably be bigger.

As a temporary measure you could try using a hotplate for simmering. I have a gadget that is two sheets of perforated steel with an air gap of about half an inch between them. It is nicely made with a useful handle and a loop for hanging and when placed over a low gas flame it allows me to place the glass coffee pot on it with no chance of damage.
Someone local could surely make you such a gadget if you don't find an everyday item that could be used. A car brake drum would lift your simmering pan a few inches and tend to diffuse the heat...

In the laboratory at school there was an asbestos pad to fit over the bunsen burner so flasks could be heated more gently.

I suggest you take a walk and look around with different eyes to see what you can find...

Dunill lighter - how do I fill it with butane?

  1. Ignore that other load of tosh.
  2. Do not refill your lighter immediately after using it. You should allow enough time for the lighter to cool off.
  3. The flame height adjuster on the bottom of the lighter should be set to minimum by turning CLOCKWISE with a small screw driver. The smaller, usually Phillips head, screw is for dismantling the lighter and should not be touched. The adjusting screw is a larger screw with a standard (slot) head. Some lighters come with a key to turn the adjusting screw. Some models have an adjusting wheel that requires no screwdriver. Please DO NOT FORCE the adjusting screw. If it is hard to turn in one direction this most likely means that the adjustment screw is already at the (-) or (+) limit. Try turning the other direction.
  4. Push the refilling valve with a screwdriver to let out the air inside until no hissing sound is heard. Hold the lighter away from your face. Air inside the fuel tank prevents butane gas from being injected into the tank and causes the lighter to malfunction.
  5. ALWAYS refill the lighter in an upside down position to avoid injecting air into the lighter.
  6. Shake the butane gas refill can, press the stem of the refill can directly onto the refill valve on the bottom of the lighter. Keep them in a straight position and let the gas go into the lighter for about 5 seconds. Repeat for a shorter period if needed.
  7. Allow 3-4 minutes to let gas and lighter components reach room temperature.
  8. Turn the flame adjuster counter clockwise to reach the desired flame height.
  9. Hold the lighter away from your face and body and ignite it carefully. If there is no flame, repeat the refilling process.

  10. If you experience gas leakage with a hissing sound while refilling the lighter, either you are not holding the lighter and gas can in a straight position or the stem of the gas can is not suitable for the lighter. In this case you need to use an adaptor which is usually supplied with the gas can.
  11. Premium butane is required to ensure optimum performance of your lighter. Lighters require the cleanest butane available at a pressure of 45 psi. Recommended using Premium Triple Refined Butane Gas that are packaged in 10-13 oz. cans with a metal fill tip nozzle. Non-premium butane with plastic fill tip nozzles are not recommended as they may cause inconsistent ignition and performance. Impurity of the gas can cause clogging of the burner valve or malfunctioning.

WARNING: PLEASE, ALWAYS KEEP YOUR LIGHTER AWAY FROM THE REACH OF CHILDREN. USE COMMON SENSE IN HANDLING YOUR LIGHTER.

Troubleshooting: If you are having problems with your lighter, make sure that:

You are holding the lighter upside down while refilling. If you did not hold the lighter upside down, there will be air inside the butane tank. You will need to let the air out and try refilling again.

The flame height is properly adjusted.

You are not using cheap or incorrect fuel.

There is no dirt or debris in the lighter. Try blowing forcefully into the top part of the unlit lighter.
