I drove my 2005 Dodge Stratus from one parking to the other without an issue. Two hours later, when I turned the key nothing would happen. Battery is good, interior and headlights turn on, but radio will not. Gages do not register either when turned to the on position. I noticed the steering wheel doesn't lock when I put the key in the off position (not sure if this model is supposed to lock). Checked fuse to ignition and it is good.

Maybe a bad ignition switch or your timing belt, also try turning your steering wheel back and forth while trying to start it.make sure you are actualy in park or that your steering linkage is working and not disconnected under the hood

SOURCE: A4 steering lock does not engage and car won't turn over

The steering locks don't necessarily engage when the key is removed, I always turn the wheel before exiting to engage it. There are several positions that will allow the pin to lock in but if between these, it may seem that it isn't locked.

SOURCE: 2008 Dodge Sprinter; key will not turn to start position

Same symptoms here. Vehicle towed to Dodge, been there a FULL 3 weeks, they seem stuck, telling me the part ( timing module? ) was bad, which releases the steering lock solenoid which in turn allows the key to turn among other critical functions.

I have read of this same failure over and over, so if there was a bad run of parts, they should have been identified and pulled from inventory.

Apparently, the dealership is stalling for reasons I do not fathom, and are not inclined to seek out advanced knowledge... just doing what the company tells em to do, which means I have no truck while they fail to be able to program these modules, one after the other.

So, it seems the Dodge dealer might either have a software problem with their equipment, or they got the procedures wrong for fixing it.

What they do not have is any curiosity or urgency to resolve the problem.

If I take it to a MB dealership, they will not honor the warranty.

I have 2005 I changed the starter and battery good but it still won't start

First does it crank, if it does then check to see if the fuel injectors are getting fuel.....could be a fuel pump...

second....if there is nothing when you turn the key and the battery is good and the starter was replaced...it could be a bad ground.....thats the ground coming off your battery and goes to your chassis of the car.........let me know how you make out.

Bad ignition switch

I had the same thing happen to me with my 2002 Sable GS. Drove it home from work about 35 miles and shut it off. % hours later needed to run some errands and the car did nothing, did not start and there was no clicking. I cleaned my battery terminals ( the were dirty and dark colored but not your typical battery corrosion .. white chalky looking) and placed a battery charger on it and it started. I hope this helps someone.

My 2005 stratus will not start, it does not click

Sounds like it's not engaged in Park completely. Try starting in Neutral. Neutral-Safety switch could be bad. Also could be other things like a bad ignition switch or wiring problem.

2000 Olds intrigue: When i turn the key nothing happened. All the lights came on (like they would if it normally started). There was no clicking noise - nothing. I tried shifting the car from park...

if an ignition switch fails, sometimes you can jiggle the key and it will start right up. its very hard to tell. but if you can start it by bypassing the ignition switch, then its the switch itself. go to this site for more detailed info--- aa1car.com/library/1999/cm119948.htm---this page should help. click on top link.
