Kitchen aid model kg25. vibrates and beater hits bottom of bowl

Your worm gear is no longer seated and that is more than likely because the housing cover is probably the old style plastic and it has cracked which allows the worm gear to jump up during operation and turn out of sync. The worm gear turns the drive gear that works the planetary gears which in turn drives the beater. If the worm gear is not turning true then of course it is pushing the planetary out of true as it turns, which causes the beater to slam the sides of the bowl. The question is this...does the beater hit the bowl in the same place on the bowl every time? Or does the beater hit the bowl in different places every time? If it hits the same place then it is probably just a planetary gear of which there are four gears involved and it could be any one of them. It it hits a different place every time it is most likely the worm gear and cover. In either case parts will cost between 30 and 50 dollars. and it takes about an hour to fix.

Runs but doesn't turn. Worm gear is not broken.

Something must be broken if the motor is turning and the planetary is not. It will be one of the following, we will start from the first point of contact with the armature
1) Worm gear broken (fuse gear) you say no teeth broken
2) Worm gear not broken but whole unbroken plastic part not gripping aluminium boss
3) Pin through worm gear broken or missing
4) Pin through centre (or bevel) gear broken or missing
5) Pin through small gear in planetary broken or missing
6) Pin through planetary hub centre shaft broken or missing

The most common ones in order of likelihood are, 1, 2, 3 and 6

Kitchenaid Mixer Planetary becomes sluggish when met with resistance.

The problem will be with the worm gear, if the gear is not stripped then check that the locating pin for the worm gear is not broken or missing. Occasionally the plastic gear can detach from the aluminium boss between plastic and shaft. The worm gear is the 99.9% place where drive can slip. Afterthought, I suppose the planetary pin is not missing or broken??

It is not going to be a problem with the motor. It is going to be a chipped/damaged gear, a bent planetary center shaft pin, or possibly the planetary itself.

The first thing you need to do is take the mixer apart. You are going to have to clean of all of the gears and inspect them very closely. I recommend using paper towels and wd-40. If there is any damage, the gear will need to be replaced, in some cases the pin that sits between the worm follower gear and bevel gear can become bent, if it is, it also needs to be replaced. If all of the gears, bearings, and the pin are in perfect shape inspect your planetary assembly. In some cases the center shaft, which is pressed into the planetary can become loose, so it will still spin under no load, but as soon as you put something in the bowl it stops spinning.

Here is a link to the KitchenAid service manual. This will walk you through how to take the mixer apart, and put it back together: http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/mendingshed/kitchenaid6qtservicemanual.pdf

Please let me know if you have any questions, or need help with the repair.

The motor works but the blender dont

I had the same problem - mine was in warranty and they covered it. They did not however ask for the broken one back., I am an engineer and thought I would try to fix it once I had my replacment- but the damage is to a plastic planetary gear, unless they will sell you the part - and an experienced person can repair it - it is dead.

You will need to remove your starter and have a look inside, most bike starters contain " Planetary " gears which disintegrate with use .

Whining noise in plenetary gear

Hi. Lubrication of the planetary is essential for your mixer. If you're still under warranty (1 year) call Kitchenaid for a replacement mixer but don't tell them that you disassembled anything.

If out of warranty, locate Chevron FM ALC EP-2 food grade grease for your mixer AND the planetary.
If you haven't already done so, go to kitchenaid.com, click on customer care, then click on manuals search. Enter your full model # in the search window and locate the parts list for you mixer. Download it, it will assist you with your servicing and will have all the part numbers for your mixer. If you need a new trans housing insist that it be METAL!

I would also remove the transmission cover, inspect it for cracks if it's one of the cheap plastic housings. If you find cracks, you have more problems with potential internal damage caused by these cracks as this housing supports two important gears and shafts. When it fails these gears skip and cause damage to the gear cogs and bearings. Kitchenaid's replacement housing is made of metal. Hopefully all you need is the planetary greased.

If this solution has assisted you, please rate it. Good luck! ricardok45
