No Audio I recently had a new HDD fitted to my Acer 3620 laptop,reinstalled windows xp and there is no sound and nothing highlighted in Audio device box in the contol panel

You obviously got access to the internet somehow in order to post this question. Unless you can get to the ACER website and download the drivers, you are not going to get satisfaction. Here is the link to the ACER driver support site. Enter your model and choose your OS. Download the drivers to a USB stick and transfer them to your PC.

mmm for me the best solution is reinstall de windows, to recuperate the password is so hard.

Check in the bios to see if the ac'97 or other onboard audio is enabled.

Sound doesn't travel to you tv via a hdmi lead from your laptop, you would need to use laptops speakers, or a connect the laptop to a suitable audio device.

If running XP:

Two things to check

Open Control Panel and select Sound and Audio. In the new window select the Audio tab and make sure your sound card is selected as the default playback device.

or

Open Computer management, click the plus sign by "Services and applications" and highlight "Services".
Scroll down to Windows audio and check that the service is started.

.Its also possible that a windows update caused this (sometimes malware or virus)

You need to download the drivers for your aspire 3620 from

This will activate the devices on your motherboard.

You did not install your motherboard drivers...install them and only then your audio card will be detected....Try i and let m know
