Ice Maker Failing to Eject Ice

I have taken the ice maker out and noted that there is ice in the mold. We started noticing a clicking sound coming from the maker and I now know this is the eject arm trying to kick the ice it. It will click for a minute or two and finally eject the ice. I can confirm that the water is filling the mold but it only makes a batch of ice every day or two. I did notice that the fill arm for the ice container seems to be in the up position all the time but I'm not sure this is abnormal. When I took the maker out to test it the arm does rotate down with the gears but seems to finish in the up position. If that isn't the issue I'm not sure what is. Any help is appreciated.

The arm should not rotate up but if it cannot push the ice out the heater is not working properly.

The interesting thing is that it does make ice and will dump a batch a day or so. With that information, do you think the heater coil is still broken, but it is just managing to break the ice free every so often?

  • jfhinton45 Nov 24, 2014

That is possible, especially if it goes into auto defrost every day or so

  • jfhinton45 Nov 25, 2014

I wuld be surprised if you cannot buy a whole new iceaker for around $50.00 USD as they were aound that price many years ago and things likethis seem to g down not up. It seems to me that almost all icemakers are the same with ifferent naqme onm them BUT that you would have to check out

Hi caleycatz,
It sounds like you are in need of a motor module for your icemaker. This is the motor and gear that drives the icemaker prongs. The part number is
W10190935 The price is $77.59 and $6.00 shipping
I can have one of these at your door in 1-2 days, so let me know if you need one. We take Visa Mastercard and Discover. Or you can order from sears for the same price and wait 10 days.

SOURCE: Roper Ice maker wont kick ice cubes out of tray.

Remove white plastic cover on ice maker. On bottom you will notice the heater connections, check for voltage. If good, heater is most likely bad.

SOURCE: ice maker not ejecting ice and then tries to fill tray and leaks

The Ice Maker Tray had a small plastic piece break off. This piece aids the tray in bending to dislodge the ice from the tray. Bosch does not just sell the tray, you will have to buy the whole ice maker assembly. You will need to order Part # 0422 from Bosch. I was not very happy about having to spend $112.00 for this whole assembly when all I really needed was a simple ice cube tray.
Save the $112 and remove the ice maker. Buy Ice at the grocery store.

In this case you have to replace the entire ice maker since the mold section is not sold separately. If you shop carefully you can get the entire shebang for about 40 bucks on ebay.

Sub zero 650 slow ice maker

Hi Maureen,

Your sub-zero 650 should produce about 8 cubes every 2 hours. It sounds like the heater beneath the ice maker may be wearing out. Ice makers use a heating mechanism to warm the cubes in the mold and force them to easily eject. If the heater is failing in the back slot, it could cause the ice cube to get stuck. If this is the case, you usually need to replace the part or the entire ice maker.

It is also possible the mechanism isn't properly aligned. You could try adjusting it.

You can find two manual on FixYa here: http://www.fixya.com/support/p24667-sub_zero_650_o_bottom_freezer

Otherwise, I suggest contacting their customer service or a technician: http://www.subzero-wolf.com/contact-and-support/index.aspx

Best of Luck!

Ge refrigerator gts22wcm ice

Hi,

Inspect the ice maker itself, sounds like either you have a jammed cube or your ice maker is not turning on heater to eject ice cubes from mold. If heater is the failure - replace ice maker. If unit is jammed, clear the ice maker mold and allow to cycle to see if damage was done to gear or ice production is restored.

Good Luck

Ice maker stopped working

I would first check around the condensing area for lint and dust buildup and clean that up. Just doing so can sometimes get the ice maker cold enough to start producing ice. Their are 2 components that are responsible for ice production. The ice maker and the water valve. As the ice maker dumps a batch of ice near the end of that harvest cycle the ice maker powers up the water valve for 7and a half seconds. How. A probe rubs on a copper plate mounted on the inside of the main gear. Here is how she works: The ice mold thermostat gets down to around 28f. This makes it close contacts and power up the mold heater and the motor. As the ice loosens up and moves a bit you hear a click. That click kills power to the ice mold heater. The motor continues on around to dump the ice. After the ice goes home to bucketsville the copper plate rubs against the water solenoid probe and water is sent up the backsides of the icebox to the ice mold for 7.5 seconds. If you are careful you can remove that wheel and clean that plate. A simple test and a manual HERE

Ice maker doesnt eject ice cubes until i physically help turn the the timer

Hello. Turn off the water to the ice maker. Remove the ice cubes, use a blow dryer to dry the mold and then spray the mold with PAM cooking spray. Let that dry and then turn the water to the ice maker back on. Joe

GE side x side When ice maker switch is on, freezer warms up

It sounds like the ice maker is stuck in the harvest ( dump ) mode , in the area of mold heater activation . This area , heats up the ice mold to unfreeze the cubes , and keeps rotating to dump the cubes . This heater , gets hot enough to actually burn you if you touch the mold .
I would remove the 2 screws holding the ice maker , unplug from the ice maker receptical , and replace the ice maker .

Whirlpool gold moder GC5SHEXN503 side by side-ice maker not producing ice anymore--water dispenser works fine--laser lites seem ok---no ice jam--no water filling ice molds

Put some water in the ice maker and see if it will kick a batch out. If it does make a batch but does not make any more then replace the water valve. NOTE: the water valve is a dual purpose valve that supplys water in the door and supplys the ice maker. If the ice maker does not kick out a batch then something is wrong with the ice maker. One easy component to replace is the ice mold thermostat.

Each mold tray has a heating element that is turned on to free the ice cubes from the mold tray and allow them to fall into the ice bucket when the tray is rotated into harvest position. Sounds like that is not being turned on... or is defective..
