Question about Electrical Supplies

I have a new SDMO 3000 gas generator, it is running rough and not producing 50hz (lights flickering), any idea what could be wrong or if there is an adjustment that can be made?

Nothing as I don't want to break it :-)

The engine drives the generator. If the engine is not running right, the generator cannot produce the power it was designed to produce. Engine requires three things to be proper to run well. Correct amount of fuel, sufficient compression and good ignition. Of these tree there is one variation, too much fuel or not enough will cause engine to run rough. If it has a carburetor it could be flooding whereas the flooding prevents engine to run rough and unable to reach proper speed. If it has a fuel shut off valve, shut it of while running rough. If the engine gradually speeds up, you're on the right tract. Let run until it dies out. Open valve and restart, it could clear the debris in the carb. that's causing it to flood.

My generator isnt kicking down when its supposed too, it runs at continuous speed

An AC generating set runs at a continuous speed in order to produce current at the correct Hz - 60Hz in the USA and 50Hz almost everywhere else.

The built-in governor will maintain the preset speed, opening and closing the throttle automatically as a load is plugged in or removed.

What is the frequency of Briggs and Stratton portable generator 30552-00 and if it is 60 hz and I wanna change it into 50 hz, Is it possible and how?

It be better to obtain an unit that already design for your area as it will the appropriate electrical outlets.

As for the 30552-00 would be 60 Hz with running at a governed speed of 3600 (3750 unloaded).

Being a two pole generator frequency is determined by dividing engine as follows. 3600 / 60=60. Engine is RPM is in minutes and must converted to seconds. For 50Hz operation the engine speed must be reduce to 3000 rpm (50hz * 60seconds = 3000 rpm)

Generator low voltage

It could be several things but it sounds like it just running too slow. I would the engine rpms first. Depending if is a two pole or four pole and if your 60hz or 50 Hz on the needed unloaded rpms.

Example: 2 pole 60 hz. Engine needs to be running at 3600 rpm loaded and 3750 rpm unloaded; unless, it has a fuel saving mode.
A 4 pole 60 hz would running half this rpm. The 2 pole producing 50hz would have the engine running at 3000 rpm loaded (about 3100 rpm unloaded)

Now in order for the 50 hz system to produce the same output voltage it requires a different alternator than the 60 hz version; otherwords, You simply can't convert a 60 hz to 50 hz version without changing the alternator by changing the engine speed.

HOW TO SWITCH 6260 TO 60HZ

6260 isn't a model number for any Ingersoll Rand generator.

Generally, though, if you have a generator that generates 50Hz and you want it to produce 60Hz instead, you adjust the governor to increase engine running speed by 20%... if the engine will tolerate that speed. The first thing you need to do is find out what speed the engine runs when it's under normal load. If that speed can't safely be increased 20%, then the generator head has been built strictly for 50Hz and there's nothing you can do about it except run a UPS between the generator and your load.

If the engine speed IS low enough to safely increase by 20%, then that's what you do.

I have a coleman 5000 that won't hold voltage at 110 volts under load. It fluctuates up and down. The motor is running steady. What could be the cause of this?

govenor problem maybe does the engine sound slower when a load is on.
you will need something to read the power frequency

3000 rpm produces 50hz uk
3600 rpm produces 60hz

so if you have a meter to measure frequency you will also know what speed the engine is running at
