Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My advent laptop 6552 powers on but no display. There is no BIOS when it powers on and my laptop can't run without the charger so I have to plug it in at all times. One last problem it's my Mom's laptop and I don't want her to find out I'm under 15 so any ideas would really help

I f there's no BIOS then its not posting, or the graphics card is not displaying.
Try plugging the laptop into an external screen using the VGA output.
If the external monitor shows the Bios, the the graphics card is gone and most likely will need a new motherboard (most graphics are integral with the MB).
If this doesnt work, then see why its not posting. First thing is to remove all external devices (USB mouse ETC), try removing the RAM and hard drive and see if it then posts. Quite often faulty or poorly seated RAM will cause no post.

SOURCE: My Dell Inspiron 1150 PC Notebook Won't Turn On

Norm.. Suffice to say these are a problem. Is it a P35 Adapter? If so look for a replacement and retry. If this does not help Check the CMOS battery voltage as crazy as it may seem but the Dell adapters are a little more complicated than a standard 2 wire output adapter. They have a 19V Feeder or main supply, The Negative or Ground as some people/techs call it as well as a 3.3V data circuit thats related to the Embedded controller chipset, BIOS and other circuits on the board. Also see if you can find a friend local with a known good working battery/adapter if you cannot afford or dont want to spend money on it. If all else fails yell back weve repaired a ton of these and they should have been included in the 5150/5160 Dell Class settlement in my opinion as they have a ton of similar components/issues..

Good Luck! Ken

Advent does not seem to have any focus on customer support unless you are a company buying from them in bulk. The best info that I could find however is provided in the links below.

SOURCE: power off automatically after 10 - 15 min

Your hard disk has crashed. Take it in to a computer store (Microcenter, Fry's, TigerDirect, or Best Buy) to get a new one. The data on your computer's hard drive may not be able to be saved.

SOURCE: computer shuts down without warning

My first guess is that your laptop is over heating. Even with a fan underneath, if the bottom vent is clogged with dust, the CPU will still get too hot. Does your computer last longer when you run less programs? I would check for dust around the fan inside your laptop. There's a video on youtube showing an acer being disassembled:

Although it may not be your laptop specifically, hopefully it will head you in right direction. It would be a bad idea to blow the dust further back into your computer, so you may have to loosen some screws and buy a electronics duster from an office supply store, but it should solve the problem. I've ran into this a lot over the years, specifically with Acer and Dell computers. Hope this helps!

SOURCE: toshiba a135-s2356 laptop no bios screen on power up

Hello,
There are 2 ways you can reset your bios2_bing.gif.

1. On the motherboard there is a small watch battery. Remove this battery along with the power cable from the power supply. Hold down the power button to fully discharge the system. Wait 2-3 minutes then reinstall the battery2_bing.gif and plug in2_bing.gif your system. Your reset is now complete

2. Some motherboards have a 3 pin jumper by the battery. Lets say that the jumper is on pins 2 and 3. Remove the jumper while the machine is OFF and place onto pins 1 and 2. Power on your machine for a minute. (Note: Your system will not POST). Shutdown your machine and put the jumper back to pins 2 and 3. Your reset is now complete

This is a great troubleshooting2_bing.gif step for those of you having POST issues or no POSTing at all. Like other troubleshooting2_bing.gif steps, this will not always work but usually will depending on the problem.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Thanks.

Failed motherboard

Should not try this yourself. Call an Hardware Engineer instead. Laptop parts may get damaged easily and are complicated to be repaired. If your Laptop is still in warranty, best to call Service Center Professional, else, you may contact any Computer Hardware Professional. But better if you don't try to remove it yourself.

System disabled [14473] advent 6552 has some one got password

Passwords sadly are set by a superuser. So technically the passwords wouldn't be the same from the last to the next. So no, nobody would have the password for it :c You're going to have to reformat, or possibly do what's called a password recovery on a USB drive with a linux OS on it to rip it. Or you could go into the cmd in safe mode and if that has no password you could always just change or add a new account with the Admin account in that mode. (Assuming that has no password either)

I have an Advent 6651 Laptop and it wont power up all the lights come on (both power lights and the Webcam light) the screen doesnt turn on and the cooling fan doesn't spin.... I have tried removing he RAM...

This is a pretty common problem with this model laptop, sadly. It sounds like you've done some reading on it.
Have you tried removing the BIOS battery, waiting 1 minute, booting up without it in place, then replacing the BIOS battery?
Next best thing is to talk to Advent's tech support and try to get them to repair it since it appears to be faulty cooling. If you are within warranty you'll have a shot.

My advent 6651 laptop will not work. the battery light is flashing blue and when i press the on off button it lights up then afer a minute it goes off but the screen never loads up

This issue might be with the RAM refixing if the power is fine.

Please rtefix the RAM once.
If the power also goes after 1 sce then please try without battery,If working the issue with battery if not then issue might be with mainboard.

How to fix a fallen felt strip inside advent 6552

Yes, most laptops have 4 small screws on the front of the screen. They are hiding under small pieces of rubber. once removed , they screen pops off. You have to be careful and not to break the screen, so, be gentle with it. you can always consult your user
manual for addtional info how to remove the screen. or you can download the manual from their website if you don't have the manual...

Let me know if this helps.
