Miss Helen, I understand your frustration and will help if I knew what was going on with your unit. Do you know you have power at the receptacle you have the machine plugged into? Has the machine been working well up to this point? I need to know these answers to figure it out, it may need a new switch on the unit or just a wire has broken in the cord. As far as I'm concerned, there is nothing that CAN"T be fixed. Talk to me dear.

Get a meter and see if you are getting power to the motor during the cycle. If you are the motor is done. I think more then likely it is a bad component on the circuit chain. Just follow it back from the motor testing it with the meter till you get power. You will know what needs to be changed out.

Loss of suction

do not connect to electricity at this point claim a little work area put a blanket down as you are going to strip it all down into little bits clean and then put it all back,
Take apart power cable unwrap, unclip middle glass cylinder section to empty rubbish out, there should be a filter at the base that you can see now unclip clean put back, empty rubbish out of cylinder clean base and top rubber section and filter section with fine brush, use a wet cloth to wipe clean all black rubber suction connectors put back, at the back there will be a hose connector at the base unplug clean put back and make sure no debris is in any of the connectors and underneath where the floor brush is before you start puting it all back , Hope this helps

Changing the door seal on a hotpoint WML540

The above is a load of rubbish, I had my machine to bits because of this advice and it got me no where. The advice may be okay for most washing machines, but not the WML540. I instead got a qualified chap out and he fit it without removing anything. He simply fit the seal (make sure you have the correct one as mine was too big) with the door open. Then put the seal around the drum and fixed the seal in place with the metal spring (he used a screwdriver to assist him). Then did the same for the front.

I now have a working machine again.

Word of warning - unless you know what you are doing, I would suggest leaving well alone and get an expert around...or a round expert!

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

Please note that I pre-typed this some time ago for others, to cover for similar symptoms as your initial problem but I do think the advice is relevant. Sorry.
It does sound as if the motor requires replacement unless it is the control board not powering the motor.
Now, a word or two of advice from a retired Englishman in SW France. It might be suggested that just the brushes on the motor want changing; experience (of others) suggests that they may only last months rather than many years UNLESS the motor itself is refurbished. Refurbishment includes skimming the commutator on which the brushes run. Without skimming the brushes do not sit cleanly on the com, often causing excessive sparking and excessive wear on BOTH (and tripping electrics!) Alternately a new motor! I changed the motor on our 19+ year-old Bosch at a cost of GBP250 ;-0(
If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

Brush does not turn when vac touches floor

You need to change the belt. The belt will not turn the brush roll and is slipping on the drive shaft. This is creating the burning smell you describe.
You say you just brought it home. From where? From repair or is this a new machine.
