Re: amana oven won't turn on gas flame

Sounds like the oven ignitor has become too weak and needs replaced. When power is applied to an ignitor it builds up resistance in order for the gas valve to open and let gas flow to the burner. When they become weak this will not happen. If you notice a whiteish color on the ignitor or it doesn't have a strong full glow that is a sign of it going bad.

My top [gas] oven will not heat. The ignitor lights. The gas strip has small blue flames lit along it. However, no matter what i turn the oven up to the flame will not increase.

Gas oven burners are usually a variable gas flow. When on high, the gas valve is fully open and the flame is high. As the heat increases in the oven, the flame reduces in size until the burner is running on whats called "bypass rate" or "maintenance rate" This is the smallest flame the burner can operate on without going out. I would suggest that the thermostat gas valve is faulty and not fully opening. It is also possible that the thermocouple may be faulty. This is a solid piece of wire which is usually situated in the flame path above the burner and connects to the gas valve and regulates the flame. It also triggers the gas valve to turn off , if no flame is present. I would try that first. A lot cheaper than a gas valve. In Australia, you have to hold a Gas service Licence to do this work.

Oven problem, it tries to ignite, but won't

It sounds like the igniter isn't lighting the flame, or the flame isn't sensing once lit. Check the burner to see if anything has fallen onto the burner or electrodes to prevent it from working. Also check the holes on the burner to see if they are blocked. If it is all clear it may be a control box issue.

Viking oven not heating past 150 degrees

My viking oven had same issue - I needed to replace the ceramic ignitors (if ignitors fail to heat up properly the gas valve remains partially closed). Apparently they are intended to be replaced every 3-5 years. Also inspect and clean the oven burners - mine had corroded somewhat and prevented the flame from 'moving' to the opposite side - ie only half the burner was lighting. If you are handy the ignitors are very easy to replace - one screw, two wires each.

How to replace oven igniter on amana ACS3350AS gas range

The following link explains step-by-step how to replace an igniter in a gas range:

The replacement process is pretty standard with nearly all gas ranges. You can go to for reference drawings to assist you as well. The oven burner assemblies are listed under the "Cavity" section.

If you have not purchased an igniter yet, the part number is AP4041245. If the connector plug does not match, there should be instructions that direct you to splice the wires using ceramic wire lugs. DO NOT use standard wire lugs. They will melt due to the high heat in the oven. The wires and connectors on these oven igniters are heat resistant. If ceramic lugs are not included with the igniter, you may have to purchase them separately. The part number is AP3440631.

This is a fairly simple repair, but if you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

My oven is not turning on and it is a gas stove

If you have a electric igniter ignition system, (no pilot light flame is used) you probably have a burned out igniter. It has two wires connected to it, located at the rear of the burner, below the burner mantle. Two 1/4" screws secure it. Replcaement igniters cost 18-25 dollars. Use your oven model number to make sure you buy the right one. Cut the two wires off the old one and use the ceramic wire nuts supplied with the new ingiter to wire it up like new.

Stove top pilot light

I have a GE Gas Stove XL44 the stove top buners don't light by themselves without manual lighting. When I turn on the buner knob the buner doesn't click. Also I used my self- cleaning oven for the first time and stopped it before the time was up after that is when the stove top buners wouldn't light by theirselves.
