How to service/lubricate (and what with)the disc tray on a Sherwood CDC-5010R 5 disc multiplayer

After 25 years my above player gets sticky from day to day, so far I've got away with opening the tray and pressing the button that rotates the tray. Eventually the problem sorts itself out, I would like to do something about it before it siezes up completely.

Quite, but I really need to know how to get at the relevant parts. Like most modern things the works are hidden, as are all the means of removing coverings. opening the machine up won't help either because inside the 5 disc tray remains intact in the machine.

Try a small a squirt of silicon spray on the moving parts

SOURCE: DVD tray will not open.

Hello,

The disc is dislodged and jamming the drawer. You have to remove the cover, about three, maybe four screws, and then take the disc out to resolve the problem.

SOURCE: DVD tray will not open.

Hi All
I had a similar problem with my fathers XBV342, my problem was that the DVD tray would open but when a disc was inserted it would close then open again time after time.
I took the top off of the unit and the front cover fascia panel off then checked the tray movement, I found that the belt for the tray motor located near the front of the tray was loose, which meant that the motor did not raise the drive motor to its correct location, which in turn didn't allow the motor to turn the disc, this causes the tray to open again, I guess it thinks it has a misaligned disc and ejects the tray, I hope this helps someone.

SHERWOOD CDC-2000C ?D6376 starts skipping it was sent to be repair played about 2 discs when I got it back and started skipping again

Unfortunately the laser pickup assembly needs to be replaced, overtime the laser becomes weaker until it can not track properly and will end up skipping or won't read the disc. It is far cheaper to replace the CD player than have the assembly replaced.

Yes, wav is what a regular audio cd format is made up of. That is what i would burn if you want to listen to them on the player.
Thank you,

The disc tray of my Yamaha cdc-745 CD player does open properly.

It's the belt inside the machine - open tray and look in front left side and you will see it. Easy to change out with new one.

Is there a way of connecting my ipod to my sherwood cd player?

The answer isn't with the CD player, it's with the amp.
Does the amp have selectable inputs, or does it just have one input for each channel?

If it's a simple power amp, then you'll have to unplug the CD player and connect your iPod to the amp inputs. I'm guessing that the CD player connects to the amp with RCA (phono) connectors like these ones.
If that's the case, you can get a cable (like this one at Radio Shack, but any office supply store will have one too) to connect your iPod to the amp.

My CD changer's disk tray keeps opening up, refuses to play discs

You have a problem with the try control circuit. It could be the switch is leaking across itself. Could be a problem with the tray motor control IC, or the Microprocessor is not reseting the open tray line correctly, or theres a cam assembly inside the unit that tells the microprocessor where everything is by means of small micro/leaf type switches thats out of alighnment or broken. If its seven years old, you got more then it was designed for and I would'nt invest a dime or the time into the repair of this unit. Time to take a trip to the electronics store. Good luck
