How do I remove brush bar housing to clean it?

I attempted to take it apart but was afraid of breaking it so I quit after taking the bottom cover off. Is it possible?

You can't take it apart. Clean it and remove the debris from around the brush bar after removing the bottom plate. You can't remove the brush bar from the housing.

How do I Pull apart a Simplicity Synchrony?

The noise is likely the brush roll or the lower motor fan if you only hear it when you turn on the brush roll. Remove the bottom plate to examine the brush roll, there are screws on the bottom of the vacuum that must be removed so that the top nozzle housing cover can be removed. Remove the screws to take the cover off the nozzle housing from the brushroll to the lower motor so you will be able to inspect the fan in the lower motor. You have a high quality precision vacuum that is not easy to repair without proper training. It may save money and provide better results to have it repaired by a qualified Simplicity or Riccar repair shop.

Tip

Cordless Shark Vacuum Brush Bar Stops Working

My cordless Shark Vacuum brush bar would stop working each time after a few minutes of use. I was getting ready to throw the vacuum cleaner away, but decided to pull the bottom cover and check it first. I did the following modification and now it works great!

Just a few notes before attempting this tip: You need to be carefulafter this modification if you see the brush bar stop as this couldmean the bar is really jammed and there is a risk of the brush barmotor burning out. Most of the time disabling any fuse or circuit breaker is a very bad idea and could ruin equipment and even cause a fire. In the case of this tip, only consider the modification if you areready to get rid of the Shark because of the brush bar problem. Another option is to replace the circuit breaker, however consideringthe time and money involved vs. the cost of the vacuum cleaner it mayor may not be worth it to you. I did this modification to my cordlessShark about 4 months ago, and have had no further problems with it. I takes about 15 minutes to do this modification using a screw driver and wire cutters.

1. With the vacuum cleaner off, check the brush bar by manually rotating is with you hand. It should not be jammed or very difficult to turn. If so, remove the brush bar and clean it. Try the vacuum again. If you still have a problem with the brush bar stopping, proceed to next step.
2. Remove bottom cover around brush bar / motor.
3. There are two wires going to the brush bar motor, one wire includes a small circuit breaker.
4. Clip the circuit breaker out of the wire and reconnect the wire straight to the motor.
5. Re-install bottom cover.

I would like to remove the clear cover over the brush bar on my Dyson DC-28 so that I can clean it. It's filthy and I cannot clean it with the brush bar in place. Is it possible to do this myself?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC28's cleaner head is a complex assembly which is not engineered to be dismantled. We'd advise against attempting this - any damage caused would not be covered under your Dyson warranty.

If you'd like some guidance on maintaining your DC28, please email askdysonUS@dyson.com and someone will be in touch as soon as possible.

I have a Miele STB-205-3 Turbobrush. After opening the brush cover using a quarter, I use a T-7 torx screw driver (shaped like star of David) to remove the main cover that is held by 4 screws.

There are 2 more screws holding the fan housing. After unscrewing them, you can take the whole thing apart and clean it. Make sure you clean all rotating parts as they collect a lot of hair, dust, etc,

I have cleaned & cleaned this thing! It runs for about 2 mins & stops, says "Clean Brushes"! and now it's very noticeable it's not picking up well... but is picking up a bit. I take the dust bin...

Ok, this is a "Brush Height Adjustment" issue. It will probably work great on a hard surface but on carpet the brushes bog. If you've taken the unit apart already...Sorry....do it again. When you do, you'll see a String which allows the brushes to "Float" on different surface heights. Loosen the screw a little and pull a bit more string through. Re Tighten the screw and put it together enough for a test run. Now reset the roomba. To reset the Roomba, power the Roomba on, and press the Spot, and Dock buttons together for at least 8 seconds. Until it plays a tune. The clock, and any schedule is erased at this time. Try running the Roomba with the dust bin removed to see the brushes spin easier.

Second method, is taking off the bottom cover, and removing the battery. While it's removed, and not plugged into the charger, press the clean button for at least 20 seconds. This will erase the memory. Replace battery, and cover. Run the Roomba to see if the brushes start to spin. You can also remove the brush housing by removing the 4 screws and reseating it, to see if it was a bad connection, since you have the bottom cover off.

Loud noise coming from DC07

Sometimes the brush bar may be slightly bent and has been rubbing against the yellow housing part (at the hole where the belt is) and has melted part of it off, the part which holds the brushes in place. The noise may the bar vibrating against the yellow part because they are now loose. Unfortunately you may have to replace both parts.

How do you replace the belt

Check for a pair of screws at the outer edge of the brush housing area. On this unit I believe the unscrew form above. Then look for any others on the bottom plate below the the brush. Belts can break or burn thru. If your s has burned, clean the burned rubber from the motor shaft before replacing. Spin the brush roll, if it rolls smoothly remove it , place the belt over the motor shaft, then onto the brush and use the brush to pull into place.Check for hair and thread buildup at the end caps of the brush. The nylon caps pop off for cleaning.

Can't remove black brush arm on bissell model #8910

The bar rides in sockets at either end of the bar. Look at it carefully,; it is probably not quite right. Ease it back out by wiggling it and try prying gently with a small screwdriver. Once out, look at the ends, and match them back up with the sockets.

Changing the belt

It is quite easy. Just take off the bottom of the vacuum encasing the roller brush. It should snap off or you may have to unscrew some screws and lift the cover off. Then remove the roller and clean it while you have it out. Now put the new belt on the motor shaft or pulley and slip the brush into the belt. Then replace the roller brush pulling the belt tight. Replace the cover and clean house.
