Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

When you turn it on you here the power up chime and after a couple seconds you here the off chime. the stand/temp light and the bulb light flashes.

I have checked and triple checked the bulb door is shut properly, and I have purchased multiple bulbs so now I have four new ones. the cooling fans are working also

Ok...perhaps the COLOR WHEEL is not starting up.It is a VERY common failure item. it MUST start--before the lamo can fire. Also--you did nt buy NEOLUX bulbs--did you ? often those will NOT T fire in s lot of sets. A genuine PHILLIPS lamp is best.

  • Jack South Nov 28, 2014

One more thing....Dose the lamp even TRY to fire/ looking into the rear vents of the set at the lampp--can you see ANY sort of attempt of it to try and light? It is possible you have a ballast problem....BUT i should tell you there only RARELY fail. a bad Color wheel is a LOt more common. It should make a whirring sound--somewhat different from the fans. If it is making a LOt of noise--a loud buzzing or humming sound--it isd BAD.

No i bought three oem bulbs and still nothing. I took it apart and i used a flash light to observe the coor wheel, that little guy spins fast.

once it turns off because the bulb is not in it takes a long time for it to stop, I think its good but what do i know. Do you think by best or safest bet is to try a ballast? If so do you know what item number and brand i should use?

    RANDY GIGER Nov 28, 2014

oh yeah the color wheel makes a slight wining sound slightly louder than the fans do.

  • Jack South Nov 29, 2014

Ok...I am about to ask you somethi8ng. DO you have any electronic repair experience--because at THIS point...there are a couple of things I need to know BEFORE I tell you to order a ballast. We need to know first off..if ther is proper voltage reaching the ballast from the power supply. Also--there is a fair possibility the ballast has been damaged by improper voltage from the doubler on the power supply. I can walk you through how to find out...IF you have a DMM (digital meter) l and know how to use one.

I am not going to b.s you, i have some experience but i am afraid you are going to throw one up there that i cant reach!!! But if it helps at all it worked great and the last time it got shut off it never would come back on, so started reading the codes in the manual and everthing in it lead to changing the bulb. For the price of a new tv this size vs. the price of new bulbs seemed kind of petty. I am up to trying anything but i dont know if i can get ahold of the tester you are asking me about and if it is around the price of a new ballast then it is a toss up to me if i should just go ahead a buy one or not. Like i said before i have atleast three good oem bulbs if not four, the color wheel is working for sure and spools up freely and spins for a long time after you kill the power so i am farely certain it is fine, and i check to see multiple times via the access cover that the light is not trying to come on. If you think it is a very strong possibilty that the ballast could be bad PLEASE tell me wich one to purchase!!

  • Jack South Nov 29, 2014

Ok then. the # looks to be--BP47A-00037a. But--are you SURE the lamp swithch is making contact--Although if it is NOT ---I am not sure if the CW will even spin. There is a good ballast on EBay right now--for about $42. The tester I am refering to is a normal digital multimeter. NOT expensive--you might have one already, and a cheap one is available for under $ 20. I just wanted you to check and see if the 320V supply at power-on. I wanted to see if it is pure and not jumping all around. If it is dropping or jumping around-it likely means one or more of the doubloer capacitors on the power supply are failing and the new ballast WILL not last long in this case. The ballast is by the lamp, and there is a big capacitor on it too. If it looks bulged or "funny" the doubler caps ARE going bad. That capacitor is NOT hard to replace on the ballast--nor are the ones on the power supply--if THEY look bulged. Your set IS worth an repair attempt--if the picture looked ok before.it should look ok--when you get it working

I am sure the lamp switch is making contact, i even have tried it with the back off and held the switch forward with my finger and always the same result. I looked at the capacitors on the power board and on the ballast look fine but, as i have said before what do i know. I will get a tester from my brother inlaw and check to see but you will have to tell me where when and how to check.

The Lamp Fan should be open enough to clean. I wonder if the fan is turning at all causing the error to occur. It is always good to keep all the vents clean so air can circulate.

Check the fan that cools the bulb. It is directly behing the bulb. It should turn on when the power comes on. It apparently has a safety to protect your tv(and home). mine is in the process of going out. looking for online solutions as we speak.

SOURCE: Samsung DLS not working(with new lamp)

The grinding sound is most likely the color wheel. The lamp will not fire up if the computer senses the color wheel is not in motion or turning too slowly. It does this to protect the color wheel from being burned.
Something else you need to realize is the fans sometimes make some noise(especially the fan at the rear of the DMD Board).
The Ballast does not go bad that often and is misdiagnosed more times than it actually needs to be replaced. Sometimes the DMD Board is defective and won't send the color wheel the signal to start which in turn doesn't let the lamp turn on. I have read this misdiagnosed as a bad lamp, ballast, and color wheel multiple times. I currently have two of these in my shop at the moment and they were both verified by swapping known good DMD Boards.
There is some very good information available on this site but many times it isn't that simple of a repair. You need to get all the information and verify before buying parts. Most of the time it will pay for someone to have a reputable shop do a repair rather than buy parts that are not needed. I have had three people buy lamps in the last week, and two replace capacitors, only to give me a call and fix the problem correctly. All of these people got the repair tips from the internet.

SOURCE: panasonic pt60 lc14 Upon power

Hi,
PT-60LC14 has three indicator lights on front that can blink when tv got problem for some reason.
These indicators are Power, Temp and Lamp.
As you said that Power light becomes orange and blinks 2 times then long pause, again 2 times blinks and pause.
This indicates problem with Lamp Cover that is not fixed in its position properly as lamp cover press a safety micro switch inside tv cabinet, if that switch is open, power light will turn orange and start blinking twice, so make sure lamp cover is fixed securely in its position.
Let me know if any other light is blinking to provide you helpful info accordingly.
Thanks.

It could be the temp sensor going bad. This sensor sits on top of the metal housing which the bulb assembly slides into. The bulb assembly will have a hole on top and this is where the sensor is above. There is a small blue and white wire that plugs into it. If you pull the wire out and put a paper clip or wire in the coupling you will basically bypass the sensor connecting the blue and white wire. If your tv turns on then that is your problem. Its cheap too. Here were my symptoms..1] Turn tv on 2] Bulb would light up..(which eliminates the ballast) regular picture would show up (which eliminates the bulb and color wheel) 3] 30 seconds later tv would shut down with 3 flashing lights. After bypass the tv turned on as always and hasnt shut down yet. Always un plug tv first. Get the replacement part to avoid overheating and possible fire

My hlt4675sx/xaa won't power up. The Stand by/ temp light and the lamp light flash. The bulb id brand new.

First thing to do is look from back of set or area when lamp is: do you see the lamp come on for even a few seconds?

Also is the problem the exact same as before lamp Replaced?

Before set failed did you hear unusual fan like, high pitched whine or even grinding sound?

Depending on how you answer I will assist you.

No picture and no sound

Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.
