Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I have a Casio fx-83wab. How do I calculate to the power of a fraction? So a number to the power of 1/3 for instance - I've tried the x-1 button with the fraction in brackets after it but that comes up as "syntax error"... Thanks!

Use the general power key that is marked as [^], [Y^x] or [X^y]. Enclose the fractional exponent (1/3) in parentheses.
You can also look for a general root key, marked as [x Root]. To use this key, press the root index (3 for example), followed by [x Root] and then enter the argument. If the index of the root is even ( 2, 4, 6, ...) the argument (inside the root) must be a positive number.

Yeah? What do you want with it?Do we have to play good cop, bad cop to make you reveal what you want?
Could be just a fraction 1/5 or a decimal number 0.2
If you calculator gives you a fraction use the [S<->D] to convert it to a decimal number. If it gives you a decimal number, you can convert it to a fraction by pressing the [S<->D key.

Problems with fractions on the Casio fx-115es

Hello,
To convert fractions to decimals or decimals to fractions, you use the [S<->D] key. Each time you press the key the result is displayed in the other format.
Alternatively, If you multiply or divide two integer numbers put a decimal mark at the end of one of the numbers (any one). The result will be displayed in decimal format.

Hope it helps.

When I divide answers are always given in Fractions. Can I change it to come out in decimals?

To change from Fraction display to Decimal display on the Casio fx-300ES (and probably other calculators)

1) Press the "SHIFT" button
2) Press the "MODE/SETUP" button
3) Press the "2" button
This Changes it to LINEIO (Decimal)

Doing all of the above but pressing the "1" button instead of the "2" puts it back into MATHIO mode (Fraction)

Hope this Helps

Fractional powers

use the "carrot" button, ^. Type in 4^.5 and you get 2. If you are going to use fractions, use the division bar and parenthesis and not the fraction key. Example 4^(1/2) = 2
