Question about QuarkXPress 5.0 for PC
Convert to QuarkXpress 10?
Quark has a free document converter on their Web site which will convert a QuarkXPress 5 file into a format that can be opened directly by QuarkXPress 10. Basically any QuarkXPress documents older then version 7 can be run through this converter to make them compatible with version 10.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: HOW CAN I CONVERT A
You shouldn't have to up-covert. A Quark 4.1 file should open nicely in Quark 8.1. There shouldn't be any problems between the two. The only difference you'll find is in the software, not the file. Quark 8 has a new interface, that is different enough from the previous versions to be a little confusing.

I don't use Quark 8.1, but I would think if you just selected "open" and retained all the preferences of the 4.1 file, it would work. The problem happens when you are trying to backsave into an older version that doesn't have all the whistles and bells of the newer one.
