The scan lock is the switch on the left side of the printer above the fan outlet. You flip the switch to lock it before moving the printer. Flip the switch to unlock the printer

try the e-mail address from your laptop using the cable and the port that the printer is using.
go to the link and download the user manual. there are section for maint.

you would have to set up a smtp server settings most likely in the printers settings.

I bought a Brother MFC-J220 all in one printer, basic user guide does not have instrutions for scanning to Pc. How do I get the software users guide? Thanks Sandy

Do you have the Brother software package that comes with the printer.If you do, please install them and it should have instructions on how to scan. Make sure to follow the instruction by the letter when you are installing Brother software package (i.e unplug printer connection to Pc while installing Brother Software package). If you do not have it, please email me your Pc Operating System (OS). I will email you the link to Brother web-site to download the software package for your printer.

The scan to email function works with applications like outlook. If your email is web based like hotmail, you will need to scan to file and attach the files to your email.

Brother MFC 665CW can no longer scan since networked

That's rather normal, if your printer doesn't have scan-to-email functionality, you won't be able to scan unless you connect it via USB to a selected machine.

Brother MFC-7840W won't connect to gmail. DNS resolution error.

I'm pretty sure that the problem (though the machine indicating otherwise) is that gmail requires SSL, and the Scan to Email (server) doesn't support SSL. If this is the problem, you can easily check it out by trying to use some other mail, with another SMTP server, which doesn't require SSL.

welcome to the computer world. have fun with it and dont worry about breaking anything cause you cant really. if you scan the document the image will go to your computer so u can attach it and send it in an email.
