Question about Dell Dimension 2200 (A-D0601) PC Desktop

1 Answer

I bought secondhand PC with o/s still on it, however the mouse pointer is still on the screen, got a new mouse but its not working, puzzled!

There's not much one can do, checked USB,fine, tried it in all sockets, still pointer stuck in middle of screen, would the problem be caused by the old O/S which is XP? Because of this mouse problem, I can't load new O/S which I have, however there are some good program that I'd like to retain!

The computer should recognize the mouse and install it automatically if it is not you might have to go into add new devices. Use the tab and arrow keys to navigate if it is connected to the internet you might be able to down load and install a driver .if the mouse came with a driver disk even better.to navigate click the tab key and watch what gets highlighted when the start button is highlighted click enter then usr the up down arrow keys to go to
control panel then use tab to navigate to add new device manager you should be able to get windows to search for the device. If this doesnt work you may have to shut the computer down and go into bios and check that usb is enabled you can use the key board to do this also .Depending on what type of computer you might have to press the delete key on start up or somtimes the f2 or f 12 key some times it tells you on the bottom of the screen when it it booting up. which key to press. I hope this helps. If you aren't sure of these steps then let me know if you need more help.

If it is a usb mouse you could try using a usb to ps/2 converter some machines will not support usb mice and keyboards.

Check that batteries are charged and installed properly.--make sure driver disc is installed if applicable- check instructions as some wireless suites need you to push a small connect button to initialise them . Also try shifting the usb conector into another USB port if it is notm getting reconised.

I hope this helps

The guide button has stopped working. Bought a new touchpad but guide button not working on it either.

Good morning David.

It sounds very much like a setting issue. I'll give you an example for Windows 7. If you're running another version of Windows, MacOS, Linux, or what have you, you'll likely have to make small adjustments.
  1. Go to Control Panel, then to Mouse.
  2. The Mouse screen will have tabs like [Buttons], [Pointers], [Wheel], and, in my case [Dell Touchpad]
  3. In this case, the Touchpad tab has a 'click to adjust' that brings up another panel that adjusts both the touchpad and the 'PointStick' (in this case, on/off for the pointstick, and adjustment for pointer speed and clicking speed.
Working from your OS specifics, and possibly your PC/Laptop model, a specific search on 'How do I turn on guide button on Model in OS Name?' will give you variants of what I wrote above.

Good Luck, and Happy Holidays!

The mouse that came with it was not used until yesterday and it sometimes lights up but even when it does, it does not work the pointer.

Hello,

If the mouse pointer works with a different mouse, then the problem is with the mouse that you are using now. You will need to get a new one if that's the case.
