My lg dvd (dv 490) plays dvd then after about 30 minutes, starts to skip a couple seconds which gets worse gradually before its starts to freeze and auto-eject discs.i opened it and noticed the driving motor spins but then slows down (causing the freezes) before it picks up speed again (resuming playback) and the motor driver component (AM5869S L/F) gets EXTREMELY hot during playback.what can i do to fix my dvd playback problems?

Sounds like sled motor [the motor that help to spin the disc inside] is faulty. This is purely a mechanical fault. Contact any service technician. The CD drive mechanism should be taken out from the device, for repair. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

Hello
Its laser Picku Unit is faulty. Either it may be dirty, or its laser beam intensity has sent down. Just put a cleaning disc, and play it for atleast three times. If this helps you, you can understand that the lens of the laser assembly was dirty. If this also doesn't help you, repace the laser assembly with same type and number is the only remedy. OK.

Freezes during playback

Hi. What I am trying to establish from my last question is whether the laser has become heat sensitive or whether there is a bit of dust buildup on the spindle table that might be causing the disc to have excessive wobble.
If the disc has excessive wobble, then the machine will have trouble tracking the outer tracks and will constantly skip as you have described after say 30 to 45 minutes.
If the laser has become heat sensitive then the same problem could potentially occur - The only difference being that if you were to restart the movie at that point, then the skipping would continue even at the beginning of the movie.
The first problem (wobble) is easy to fix - Clean the spindle table, the second problem may render the unit uneconomical to repair.

Hi,

Try updating your DVD firmware (located at the support website from dell) and see if it fixes the problem. I believe, i-Tunes causes a conflict between your dvd rom drive. You can check it here at the microsoft website support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

Hope this helps.
