It is possible that the computer is dead and this will be costly to replace, but your best bet is to talk to a Nissan technition

SOURCE: instrument cluster panel

The transistors are BST80, the numbers are just SMD codes, but the reason to make transistor to fail is the illumination layer is faulty. There is also a transformer which may have open circuit You should check that either

This is on the air/fuel sensor that is mounted in the exhaust manifold right behind the radiator. You will need to remove a heat sheild to see it but you should see the wires coming out of it. Also a spiecial socket is needed to get it out without damaging the wiring.

SOURCE: P1403 DPFE

this basically means the EGR valve has been wrongly connected, the hose is partially off or is faulty, also the hoses like to block up with a carbon build up wich will cause the valve to stay partialy open giving you a poor idle

2003 sentra Nissan. Trouble starting, engine has died while I was driving, it did start back up. Today speedometer, engine temp, etc showed nothing? Battery is 5 months old? What could be wrong?

Nothing working on the instrument cluster ? Shouldn't be a battery problem with being only five months old. Turn on the headlamps , do they shine bright ? Does the check engine light come on when you turn the key to the on position ? Do all warning lights come on with the key on , then some go off after a few seconds ? Checking for diagnostic trouble codes in the instrument cluster would be a good thing to do also . The Instrument cluster could be the problem .

My nissan Almera S reg has no side lights or dash lights. All fuses seem ok.

This solution will be of great help to you,even in the case of future or other dashboard problems;
Instrument cluster consists of electronic analog gauges, various warning lights, and optional tachometer. Vehicles equipped with tachometer have an electronic vacuum fluorescent transmission range indicator (PRND3L),odometer and trip odometer display. Vehicles without tachometer are equipped with a cable-operated transmission range indicator.
Instrument cluster is equipped with the following warning lights:
Battery voltage.
Cruise (speed control).
Door ajar.
Fasten seat belt.
Lift gate ajar.
Low fuel level.
Low windshield and washer level.
Traction Control.
The Body Control Module (BCM), which receives input from various sensors, sends display information to instrument cluster and operates gauges. Instrument cluster incorporates a self-test diagnostic feature to identify electronic problems. BCM, Powertrain Control Module (PCM), and Transmission Control Module (TCM) are continuously monitored by the diagnostic system.

SELF-DIAGNOSTICS
With ignition off, press and hold TRIP and RESET buttons while turning ignition switch to ON position. Continue to hold TRIP and RESET buttons until odometer window displays CODE (approximately 5 seconds). If problem exists, system will display diagnostic trouble codes. See DIAGNOSTIC CODE CHART table. If no problem exists, Code 999 (end test) will be displayed.
DIAGNOSTIC CODE CHART
CodeDescription
110.......Cluster Memory Fault
111.......Cluster Calibration Fault
905.......No CCD Bus Message From TCM
921.......Odometer Fault From BCM
940.......No CCD Bus Message From PCM

After diagnostic code display ends, instrument cluster will go into each of the following tests in order:
Dim test.
Calibration test.
Odometer segment test.
Electronic Transmission Range indicator segment test.
Dim Test
CHEC-0 will be displayed in odometer window. Instrument cluster will dim Vacuum Florescent (VF) display. If VF displays do not dim, a problem in instrument cluster exists. See BODY CONTROL COMPUTER TESTS in BODY CONTROL COMPUTER article.
Calibration Test
CHEC-1 will be displayed in odometer window. Each of instrument cluster gauges will move sequentially through each calibration point. See GAUGE CALIBRATIONS table. If gauge needle is not calibrated properly, a problem in instrument cluster exists.

Odometer Segment Test
CHEC-2 will be displayed in odometer window. Each segment of odometer will light sequentially. If any segment does not light, replace instrument cluster.
Electronic Transmission Range Indicator Segment Test
CHEC-3 will be displayed in odometer window. Each segment of electronic transmission range indicator will light sequentially. If any segment does not light, replace instrument cluster.

When I turn the key in the ignition, nothing

It could be a bad ignition switch, do you have instrument panel warning lights when you try to start it?

Turn the key on and the instrument cluster wont light up or allow it to start push a reset button under hood lever and makes no difference

If the car starts but the instrument panel does not lit, then check ignition, instrument cluster connector and instrument cluster.
If the car also does not start , then check ignition, ignition switch, and wiring.

NO START

This problem can be three things. The ignition switch is a good place to start but its under a recall and you should not spend any money on this repair. The passlock system next to ignition switch should probably be changed at the same time and is also under a recall. The instrument cluster is the most probable in your case. The reason i say that is because the key is the headlights not turning on you may also have some lights on the instrument cluster flickering on and off at weird times. The speedometer or other gauges are probably not working all the time. if you are handy you can remove the cluster and send it out for repair. The tech who repairs this might even tell you that the instrument cluster has nothing to do with non start issue but it does. the passlock anti theft reads the ignition key when you insert it into ignition cylinder. Once you turn the key the ignition sends a signal through the instrument cluster to the pcm. the pcm will allow the car to start if the correct signal is recieved. If the pcm recieves no signal it allows the car to start for a second and then kills the car.
