The most likely problem is that your Hard Drive has Died.
If you can readily access another Laptop HDD, try it and see.
Other than that, I'd say the Motherboard has decieded to give up the Ghost.
Just Remember, A Laptops life expectancy is 3 years, after that you are treading on thin ice keeping Important Documents on it.

Please do not panic....The first thing what we need to do is perform a hard reset...What does Hard Reset mean... Unplug the A/C Adapter Pin from the notebook...Turn the notebook upside down and then remove the battery from the notebook...Turn the notebook in the upright position and then press the power button for 30 seconds without the battery and without the A/C Adapter Pin connected to the notebook... After 30 seconds place the battery in the battery outlet and connect the A/C Adapter pin and restart the notebook...Check if you can see anything on the screen....If you can't see anything on the screen then please perform a forced shutdown by pressing the power button down until all the lights have turned off...Then as soon as you restart the notebook press the F10 key continously on the keyboard...It will take you to the BIOS Screen... Check if you see the screen...If the screen is still blank then don't perform the next step....Click N for No...Then press the F9 key and then select Y as in Yes...again press the F10 Key then press Y and it will boot to the desktop.... still you have the same problem then perform a recovery....If the screen is blank in the BIOS Menu then try connecting an External Monitor...If you cannot see anything on the screen it is a problem with your video card or monitor you will have to contact HP since your fan does not work...If you have any other queries please don't hesitate to contact me and i will help you with the same.....
