Not really. The biggest issue is bumping the knives into other silverware that is present in the rack. The detergent can also leave a film on the steel that can cause it to be sticky.

Is there such thing as a knife that doesn't need sharpening?

There are some new knives on the market called "ceramic knives" that are made out of zirconium (the same stuff as fake diamonds.) They don't get dull because they are are wear resistant and should stay sharp for life. Be advised that ceramic knives are very expensive!

Are juggling knives dangerous?

Juggling knives look really sharp but they have rounded points and blunt edges and shouldn't be too dangerous. But still, you have to be careful as you can still get injured throwing juggling knives and should only practice with supervision.

What kind of cutting board is the best?

I think plastic is the best. Wood harbors bacteria, glass ruins your knives. Plastic ones can be cleaned well and they even can go in the dishwasher.

Why is my dishwasher making my glassware dull ? and knives rusty?

They all do given time. The water is rushing out at a high speed and hiting the glass which minutly scratches the sufaces. Either buy cheap glasses and throw away when unclear or have good glasses and wash up by hand. Anne Melhuish

How to load a dishwasher

Hello Lona Harrington, here is how the manual for my fridgearie dishwasher tells me and how I load it .
1. Upper Rack is for smaller items. Cups, small bowls, sippy cups, plastic bowls. all face down.2. Lower Rack is for larger items. Plates pots and pans. The plates should be upright. pots and pans face down.3. flatware basket. This is ware I disagree with the book manual. The manual says to put the tines of the fork facing upright and the same for the knives. I have young children and they are great helpers, but I don't want them hurt so I put all the sharp points down.Manuals are available on line free Hope this helpsJoe

I always put the handles down in hope of the spray hitting the business end better.

I'm sure there are arguments for handle up too, but I put the handles down.

Water spots of forks & knives and dishes not

The problem is hard water. There is a new product out called the dishwasher filtration system. It filters the water before it enters your dishwasher. It works amazing and has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look after the first load. It is also very affordable (like 70 bucks). Go to to find out more info.

Kenmore Elite Ultra Wash Dishwasher - top rack arm not spinning

Hi: I just posted a similar problem, but found a solution. After taking the arm, etc. apart (and verifying no blockages), I thought maybe the lack of water pressure was being caused by the fact that there are TWO holes for the top spray arm (higher and lower rack setting) on my model. ie. that water was being forced out of both holes, causing a drop in water pressure, which was causing the top spray arm to stop spinning. I plugged the unused hole with a wine bottle cork (to keep the water from spraying out the unused hole), and voila, it now works.

I wish all appliance fixes were this easy...!
